Founded in 2001 by Natalie Dean, Beyond Skin are a Brighton-based, award-winning ethical footwear label, passionately doing what they can to trade in a manner that is kind to fellow humans, animals and wherever possible our planet. They constantly look to prove that desirable fashion and ethics can, contrary to popular belief, go hand-in-hand.

Beyond Skin closely work with their factories in Spain and India so that in their own words, 'they really know what's happening behind closed doors'. They also endeavour to source all components and fabrics locally to the factories in order to reduce their carbon footprint as much as possible.

I've managed to sneak a preview of the Spring/Summer '10 collection which features the introduction of an exclusive range of luxury evening shoes using a bold colour palette of vivid satins, dynamic floral prints and faux patent brights. The new padded insoles and flexible soles in the range are a welcome addition to any high heel, resulting in pretty much the most comfortable shoes I have ever clicked my heels in.

Branching out from Brighton and eagerly stepping into Summer with a burst of fresh colours and prints, Beyond Skin have also recently launched the 'Sole' collection, a range of cute and affordable flat pumps in a variety of vintage fabrics. These are available in the new London Anthropologie store which opened on Regent Street last October, but you can also order direct.

In 2009, Beyond Skin won various awards for their achievements including the Drapers Award, the Grazia Ethical Award, the PETA Best Designer Footwear Award and the RSPCA Good Business Award.
