JODAN Hunt could have killed any one of us when he jumped into his car on August 12.

He had been snorting cocaine and drinking at a wedding when he decided to go for a drive.

We do not know what compelled him to do such a thing, only that the families of Richard Clement-Lewis and Maria Smith will have to now live without their loved ones.

It was only 9.30pm when sped down the seafront.

In August there still would no doubt have been children around, enjoying the summer holiday evening.

No number of hours of driver rehabilitation will bring that couple back.

In eight years he could be back behind the wheel, driving around Sussex at any time, day or night.

Hopefully for all our sakes his few years behind bars will have reduced his drug taking by then.

Hopefully.

The families of his two victims are absolutely right to question his sentence and the powers given to judges in such cases.

For there are other drivers out there who should never have been allowed to get behind the wheel of a car.

Nothing will bring back Richard Clements-Lewis and Maria Smith.

But his families are trying to reduce the number of people needlessly killed on our roads like they were.

The roads are dangerous enough with the way many drive while completely sober
