YOU only have to travel around Brighton and Hove for a matter of minutes before you come across roadworks.

The city is forever a mass of cones, diversions, diggers and men at work.

More often than not it is essential work that needs to be done - however frustrating it may be.

What is vital is that local authorities and gas, water, electricity companies work together to minimise disruption as much as possible.

That has clearly not been the case in Whitehawk Way, where there has been little progress on roadworks.

The problem appears to be Southern Water and Brighton and Hove City Council.

So bad is the situation that apparently council bosses are considering bringing their legal team in.

This is the Southern Water just last month named the worst provider in the country by a Watchdog.

When we called yesterday they were unable to inform us what the problem had been, instead suggesting it was the council we should be contacting.

Once again their customers appear to be at the back of their minds.

You only have to speak to those who live in and around Whitehawk Way to realise the disruption this causes.

We have enough infrastructure problems to deal with as it is in Brighton and Hove without these entirely preventable delays.

We implore Southern Water and Brighton and Hove City Council to sort out whatever the problem is as soon and possible.

Not only that, both should use this as an opportunity to learn from.
