BACK in November, Stiles Harold Williams complained about graffiti and “tagging” of commercial and residential property in Brighton.

The piece received coverage in the local press but very little seems to have been done about the problem, apart from individuals and management companies taking matters into their own hands.

SHW Management uses a specialist sub-contractor to remove graffiti and although it gives a wonderful service this inevitably adds to service charges. Graham, one of the sub-contractors, uses the No more Graffiti® system which is REACH compliant, biodegradable and effective.

It’s supplied to more than 200 UK councils.

Graham and his colleague Simon do a great job for us but with current official attitudes towards defacing private property we’re fighting a losing battle to be honest.

I would implore the council to toughen its stance or at least provide more support for property owners.

Stiles Harold Williams has written to Brighton and Hove City Council requesting increased support in minimising anti-social scrawling.

  • Robert Perry is Property Management Partner at Stiles Harold Williams
  • Brighton and Hove City Council said enforcement action against environmental crimes is at its highest level ever. It has no responsibility for graffiti on private buildings although it cleans off offensive graffiti such as anything obscene or racist.
