A motion opposing a badger cull in England next summer was carried in the House of Commons by 147 votes to 28.

It is a welcome result, but not binding on the Government.

If Mr Cameron and his farming minister still want to cull badgers, they reveal their utter contempt for democracy (most of us oppose the cull) and the wishes of members of Parliament (the vast majority of those who voted said no to the cull).

The Government is completely out of touch with public opinion (and science, I should add).

What’s happened to the so-called “democracy” we love to tell other countries we dearly cherish?
