Following your article on the proposed new Bilingual School near Hove Park (July 11), I have inspected in detail the drawings and documents accompanying the planning application.

The background is that the existing Bilingual School was first opened only nine months ago in September 2012 in part of the Brighton Aldridge Community Academy. The trust was given a two-year tenure in this accommodation.

The planning application documents state that the school will be relocating in September 2014 to its new premises.

The existing intake of pupils is 73 with 11 staff, but the ultimate target capacity (in 2021) is 630 pupils with 46 staff.

There appears to be a mad rush to push through the plans for a new school on a virtually land-locked site with very poor access.

The school travel plan and transport assessment submitted with the application indicate that the main area for dropping off pupils will be the existing parking facilities along Goldstone Crescent and also the Co-op car park (a private car park).

The resulting increase in traffic, especially along Goldstone Crescent, will result in considerable disruption for local residents and congestion and dangers for users of the road, which has a number of blind spots and undulations (particularly north of the Droveway junction).

The application for its proposed location should be refused.
