I am a resident of Park Crescent in Brighton, which is within the proposed controlled parking zone extension to Zone J.

I am now in favour of this proposal, for two main reasons. Firstly, because it is nearly impossible to park near my home due to non-resident parking and secondly for safety reasons.

We are currently one of the first roads out of town that does not have restricted parking. Zone Y and Zone J, which adjoin my area, have controlled parking seven days a week from 9am until 8pm.

Anyone from those areas without a permit or visiting those areas can park in our area free of charge.

We are also near enough to Brighton Station and London Road Station to be a “park and walk” option. It is really stressful trying to park and I feel particularly sorry for elderly residents and those with young children.

The safety issue is caused by cars parking partly on pavements and not leaving enough room for emergency vehicles. Last year a fire engine was impeded while trying to reach a very serious incident. This type of parking also forces pedestrians to walk in the road.

I would prefer not to have to buy a permit and I would like to not to have to use my car. However, like many, I need a car for family and work demands and being part of a controlled parking zone is now the only viable option.
