People complaining about the Brighton Marathon make me so angry (Letters, April 12).

This event was fantastic. Not only do all the runners give up their time and work hard to train, they make vast sums of money for charity. The spectators also had a fabulous time encouraging and supporting the runners.

There was plenty of advanced warning about the event so people could make alternative arrangements or change their route for one day.

Business was booming wherever I was and, on the contrary, people were praising all involved runners, spectators and the organisers.

So, come on all you moaners, give credit where it’s due and come along to next year’s Marathon.

Enjoy and support – I can’t wait.

Mrs G Patrick, Bernard Road, Brighton

While I understand Roger Lee’s frustrations, I must take issue with some of the points he raised: part of the coast road was kept open for buses and emergency vehicles and, on the parts of the course which were closed, about three ambulances went past.

I would also wonder, rather than losing money, how much shops made as the streets were lined with spectators. If the Marathon went off-road I can’t see people going to watch.

It is only for one day of the year and I can only see this event growing and bringing in much-needed revenue and tourism to our city.
