And again on fracking, in response to Kenny Lloyd (Letters, April 24), who reckons Cuadrilla should pay the £4 million police bill for the Balcombe protests, may I ask?
Cuadrilla had all the relevant permissions in place to drill the site and, while drilling, had its own security staff securing the site and perimeter fence 24/7, costing plenty in the process.
Cuadrilla did nothing wrong, unlike the protestors who were not invited, camped on West Sussex land for months and blocked the B2036 Balcombe road many times, stopping motorists getting to work.
It appeared to me that few protesters went to work themselves.
I will agree the whole process was over-policed, with 400 officers in attendence on one day alone.
