To the boycott Israel supporters who boycotted Ecostream in Western Road, Brighton, it was not just local farmers and local producers they hurt when the shop eventually shut.

It has just been announced that Ecostream is to move its factory from the West Bank to the Negev in Israel, which will result in 900 Palestinians losing their jobs.

One such worker was Nabil Bashrat, 40, who lived in Ramallah and said: “Those who seek to help the Palestinians only end up hurting us”.

I trust the council members considering the anti-Israel motion will dwell on this thought and realise that such a clearly one sided motion will not bring peace to the Middle East.

They would do better to concentrate on local issues that affect local people.
