I understand that Brighton and Hove City Council is registering an interest as to the possibility of a section of the ceramic poppies from the Tower of London, pictured, coming to the city and displayed in Royal Pavilion Garden.

My grandad was killed in WW1, buried in France and never came home to Brighton, leaving a wife and three children under five.

My mother never saw her father and all there is here is his name on the Castle Square war memorial.

I did not have the opportunity to see the poppies at the Tower as I was housebound but I’m sure others, for whatever reason, were not able to visit.

One poppy represents my grandfather. I would love to see them come to Brighton.

Councillor Jason Kitcat (Argus November 13) mentions discussions about possible costs to the city. I do understand that security will need to be provided and paid for.

However, the war cost my grandfather his life fighting for this country. I’m not sure how a value could be placed on that?
