I have just visited the Open Market in London Road, Brighton, for the first time since it was redeveloped.
I was amazed at what a wonderful transformation it is.
I am a born and bred Brightonian and remember the market always being shabby and not very inviting.
It’s smart, arty, mobile friendly and a lively, interesting place. Well done whoever is responsible.
I listened to a trader helping a visually impaired older lady buy some cheese and he was so nice, patient and caring with her I thought back to the good old days (I am only 57 by the way) when shopkeepers really served their customers.
She happily went off with her piece of cheese laughing at his humour. It made my day as well as hers. I for one will do my best to abandon the supermarket chains and visit this market every week.
My only worry for these traders is the ridiculous parking charges asked in Brighton that no doubt will inevitably keep visitors away.
If you haven’t visited this area as, let’s face it, London Road has never had a good reputation in the past, please do so, you will not be disappointed.
