I would like to draw attention to the wonderful work being done by Professor CC Liu and his team regarding the new corneal graft procedure at The Sussex Eye Hospital, Brighton and Sussex NHS Trust.

I was the successful recipient of this procedure on 27 November. Within 24 hours my sight became clearer, seeming like a miracle.

To explain it as simply as possible the following quote is from an information leaflet I received from The Sussex Eye Hospital.

"In the past, a full thickness corneal transplant has been the preferred technique.

"However, this procedure requires stitches and a full thickness wound which results in a prolonged recovery time and is associated with risks of wound related complications.

"Since surface corneal incisions and sutures are not used in the modern technique (Descemet’s Stripping Automated Endothelial Keratoplasty), the corneal shape is preserved, which allows a more rapid recovery than a full thickness corneal graft."

We are so lucky to have such an excellent eye hospital and to know that many others will benefit from this mind blowing procedure.

On a personal note, it was such a joy to be able, amongst many other things, to read music again and to be able to play the piano.

I would like to convey my thanks for the professionalism of everyone concerned in this remarkable advancement.
