What sort of a sad society are we becoming when some people have nothing better to do than complain about the sound of church bells and noise from mowers. (The Argus, January 10)?

Both of these normally take place for a short period of time and during daylight hours when there are far worse noises to complain about, such as yapping dogs, boy racers with their exhausts modified to emit as much noise as possible and motor bikes which could be made a lot quieter than they are at present.

On the subject of mowers, how are people meant to cut their grass? With a pair of scissors?

Perhaps the moaners could suggest alternatives for the activities about which they complain?

The complaint which really made me laugh was the sign that creaked in stormy weather. Did these people stand outside to enable them to hear this?
