I, together with lots of people am very upset about the cuts in general, and about recent cuts in subsidies (which were approved in December) for the Peacehaven Rover and other buses.
These cuts were made despite overwhelming opposition. We are supposed to be a democratic society where the will and the welfare of the people is paramount.
I know the government wants these cuts but I have always maintained that if they won’t spend so much on warfare and really have the will to track down the people who avoid paying taxes by having offshore accounts, we should have enough money to fund buses, the NHS and the other important services.
Some people affected by these cuts become isolated, depressed and I am very sad that in my constituency in Peacehaven and elsewhere people have to suffer.
I see every day (by talking to people) what a difference a day out shopping or going to the doctor, hairdresser etc can make to our vulnerable people.
I hope that some of the East Sussex county councillors will have a change of heart and I urge people with power to get in contact with the real world and the needy, because one day they could be in the same situation.
I urge them to remember that the council tax budget belongs not only to them but to the council tax payers and to society.
Emilia Simmons Peacehaven town councillor
