Green Party candidate and spin doctor Rob Shepherd is wrong on so many counts (Argus, April 15th). Labour hasn’t “finally” published its policies, this happened in October.

The new secondary school isn’t “already happening”, no site has been announced and so far there are just proposals from Brighton University for a free school, something the Green Party opposed until now. If the Greens introduced landlord licensing some time ago, how is it private rented sector tenants have never heard of it, let alone felt any benefits?

Mr Shepherd claims the Greens inherited “a poor recycling record”. That isn’t correct, they inherited a good one and it has got worse, that’s a fact. He claims that improving our city’s waste collection has been held back by cuts, but that if re-elected the Greens will improve things, yet at the same time he says cuts will continue. Not a consistent argument.

One thing he does get right. Labour will suspend and review the Green and Tory "Valley Gardens" scheme to dig up the Steine from St Peter’s to the pier over a five year period, which would halve the number of lanes and remove the Aquarium Roundabout and Mazda Fountain in an open-ended project which will cost the taxpayer millions.

Labour regenerated the seafront, rebuilt Churchill Square and gave the city our award-winning Jubilee Library; it's the Greens and Tories that have put the city into decline.
