I OFFER my thanks to the almost 15,000 residents in Brighton Pavilion who trusted me with their vote on May 7.

We sought Labour representation for the constituency and across the country but that aim was not shared by most people here.

I am deeply saddened by the outcome. Yet, I want to express my gratitude to the many, many people who encouraged, supported, donated to and enjoyed our campaign – we worked hard, we worked well together.

A month on from the election, I have almost finished wrapping up my campaign. The website and Facebook page are closed and papers are filed.

My campaign is closed.

It was a great privilege that people across the constituency gave me their time and shared with me their hopes for the city and country. Thank you all.

On a more personal note, I returned to work on Monday, May 11 and soon after received a job offer with the United Nations.

I shall be leaving Brighton for some time to continue my work elsewhere to make a difference to people with least advantage.
