Bonnets and bawdy bets drew the crowds to an Easter parade and street party. Children, pensioners and drag queens all played their part in fundraising celebrations in aid of The Sussex Beacon in Western Street, Brighton, on Sunday. After a parade of bonnets, judged by Brighton and Hove’s mayor Anne Meadows, the crowd placed their bets on a “drag race”. Drag queen Skinny Marie won the race. The events were staged by The Bedford Tavern and The Grosvenor Bar. The Bedford’s landlord, Adam Brooks, said he did not know how much had been raised but previous years’ totals had topped £1,200. He said: “Considering the weather started off a little bit on the rainy side, it turned out to be a really good day.”
