Albion are wary of pitching Wayne Bridge back into action against Bristol City at The Amex tomorrow night.
Centre half Adam El-Abd (hamstring) returns to the squad following a four-match absence but left-back Bridge is unlikely to be risked after missing the last two matches with a calf injury.
Manager Gus Poyet told The Argus: "Adam El-Abd is going to be in the squad, 100 per cent. Wayne? I'm not sure. It's a strange situation, because now we have got a big issue with the pitches where we train.
"We are coming into the proper winter weather and the conditions are very, very difficult, very wet and heavy.
"Then The Amex pitch is totally different, really harder compared to the training ground. The medical staff are always looking at that and it causes problems, especially for the players that have got injuries, so it's not an easy situation with Bridgey. We need to be very, very smart."
