Albion fought back from two goals down to grab a 2-2 draw at home to Millwall in the Championship tonight.

David coolly converted a penalty two minutes from time for the Seagulls but they are now four games without a win.

Inigo Calderon was ruled out by injury in an Albion side featuring two changes.

There was a double scare in the first minute when an unmarked Liam Trotter was allowed a free header which he planted wide and in the process Adam El-Abd went down injured but he was able to continue after treatment.

The visitors went ahead on 25 minutes when Shane Lowry’s cross from the left was sidefooted home at the near post by former Albion loanee Chris Wood.

Albion went close to an equaliser just past the half-hour mark when Gordon Greer headed David’s free-kick against the crossbar.

Gus Poyet made a change on 39 minutes, taking off Lewis Dunk, moving Adam El-Abd to centre-back, David to right-back and introducing Kazenga LuaLua.

The substitute almost made an immediate impact with a dangerous cross which got caught under the feet of Craig Mackail-Smith.

Albion started the second half with more urgency and were unlucky when David’s free-kick from a central position 25 yards from goal struck a post on 56 minutes.

A minute later Millwall went 2-0 ahead with a terrific left-footed strike from 20 yards.

Albion halved the arrears on 61 minutes when LuaLua drove forward and unleashed a shot from 20 yards of his own which found the bottom corner.

The home side thought they had levelled with 13 minutes remaining, claiming El-Abd’s header had crossed the line but referee Keith Stroud awarded a corner.

The goal did come from the penalty spot two minutes from time when Mackail-Smith was upended by Liam Feeney and David slotted home his first goal for the club.

Great fightback but we really needed the three points tonight. Drawing your home games will get you nowhere.

Why does Gus start with such a negative formation and only adapt when we fall behind?

A good point in the circumstances but yet another home draw. Agree with Bruce, we seem to start with a negative formation (why Gus persists with Hammond and Crofts together I don't understand) and more often than not we have gone behind first and have to chase the game. Tonight the formation must have been a shambles after the substitutions but the all out attack worked in the last 1/2 hour, Barnes, CMS, Lopez, Hoskins, Buckley, Lua Lua all in the same X1 - not many could have predicted that. But why not start on the front foot?

Also a shout out for Lopez - he hasn't had the best of starts looking a bit off form but has the bottle to continue taking the free kicks, corners, and now the penalties - so pleased he wasn't sacrificed in the first half and eventually scored as we know the role of penalty taker has been a poisoned chalice this season. Would be great to see him, Vicente and Orlandi all together one day.

It could be worse, indeed, Pandaking. Always felt this would be another season of consolidation with the real push for the Premiership coming in 2013-2014. IMHO we're going to need three more quality players (central defence, central midfield, striker) to make this a reality.

Ok so what was lacking? Several talking about a negative line up, I presume they mean Hamond in Hoskins out. Does leaving Hoskins out equate to a negative line up, one player. Don't forget Hammond has scored this season. Buckley's goals have dried up but we don't hear a lot about that from those that post.

If the line up was a tad defensive looking it didn't stop us going two down.

Would the line up look so negative if Buckley or CMS could find their scoring touch again.

How can you expect to win with a starting line up with Cofts Hammond and Bridcutt all playing. Playing for a draw from the start! A good fight back and KLL a deserved man of the match and he only played 52 minutes. Wood impressive and would think a good purchase if we can get him in January. An attacking creative midfielder wouldn't go amiss either unless we can get Vicente back. Bruno sorely missed! UTA

Hammond and Crofts in the same team and keeping doing this is reminiscent of Gerrard and Lampard for England and it never working either - sometimes the manager just needs to recognise it doesn't!! Quite agree with others stating why, at home, do we start with such an unadventurous line up, get on the back foot, concede and then decide we'll be adventurous - a good way to gain draws I guess. David showed this evening that he can really take decent set pieces when he puts his mind to it - the one that hit the woodwork but also the next free kick too and of course then the best taken BHA penalty we have seen for some while, and at 88 minutes, at home. Lua Lua surely has to start the next match - now scored our last 2 goals in free play and created options for another 2 that others have missed. Will Buckley had an off night by his standards - he started with a lack of belief in his excellent skill set - £11 million seems optimistic for the moment! More short corners surely?? More shots too - BELIEF! 3 points perfectly manageable at Blackburn. Our our medical team not so good afterall then - after all those changes - most of our best or form players seem to get injured and be out for several matches - Orlandi, Vicente (of course), CMS, Buckley and Bruno so far this season

Haven't seen so many time wasting tactics from a team for a long time. The feigned injuries always seemed to come when Brighton were in the ascendency. From where I sit in the South West, that ball looked definitely over the line. I was impressed with Millwall's play for the first fifteen minutes, until one then another started to drop like they had the novovirus. Within seconds their injuries disappeared as soon as they re-entered play - disgraceful. Can see why they have won so many games with their strong arm and unsporting tactics.

Millwall played to their strength, big and strong, which is why I can't understand why we insist on pumping balls into cms, 5'10 against a huge lump like Shithu!
First half was pityful and things needed to change quickly so glad to see Gus change things early on.
KLL was excellent when he came on and it was nice to see 2 wingers for a change we looked far more dangerous.
We seem to be afraid to shoot, until KLL equalised.
Lopez is getting better with every game and was glad to see him step up instead of Barnes for the penalty!
Probably deserved to win in the end and am sure the shot before El-Abd's header was over the line (his header was not - I am in line with the goal-line and had a great view.)

Agree with the comments that we need to start more positive, perhaps if we had started with the team we finished with 3 points would be ours tonight??

Thought David and Lua Lua were our best players tonight, we lacked the power they had in abundance they looked more likely to score, CMS once again looked and was, overpowered and lost, when Gus added Hoskins and barns Lua Lua already bought on at this point we finally seemed to be a team that were more confident in going forward with a connection from front to back better balanced, I still think Hoskins should have started Gus got it wrong in the first 60 mins when we had the link up options we looked a different team, the ball was over the line another 2 points left on the woodwork! We must start at home with the stronger options and if we have to when we have our noses down learn to kill lesser teams off, or as in today's case close the game down.

What a strange starting 11 and formation tonight. It really didn't work. I'm sorry to say it but I have to agree with most and say that having both Hammond and Crofts in just doesn't work. For me Hammond looks the far better player right now. Crofts is not the player he was. I thought David had a nightmare opening 25 minutes and would get substituted early, didn't happen though and weirdly he had a fantastic game when moved to right back. He looked composed, skillful and a good footballer suddenly. I really like that he dug in and when faced with adversity rose to the challenge. Lua Lua as other have mentioned changed the game this evening, his decision making was excellent, his work rate good and his skill pace and power was something that Millwall could not handle. Cms and Buckley sadly had one of those nights and were very out of soughts, I thought they both had the worst game I've seen from them. They will come good again though and are well worth their place in the 11. I thought Barnes did ok when he came on and Hoskins looked a class act too. His attitude was excellent and you could almost see him trying to impress. A few negatives tonight but equally some positives too. Lets get this starting 11 right GP and start picking up the 3 points that we have often deserved. Bruno and Orlandi returning soon will be a big boost and with that elusive striker on the horizon and a couple more tweaks the signs will be good, perhaps too late for this season but certainly ready for next. But gus you for all the good you are doing for us,you need to help create that with positive formations at hm from the off. Ref :woods not for me, just a player playing in form. Far gull

are the best team we’ve played this season. They have so much firepower.
And played the ball around.
“But we put on a very good performance, particularly the first half, and was pleased with the result. We came under pressure in the second. We have to move on and keep progressing.”
Brighton boss Gus Poyet said: “I wasn’t surprised by Woody’s performance. He was a baby when he was with us. He’s a man now. He’s brave, a good
finisher. He’s the sort of player we want with the form and attitude he
showed.
“He’s going to be a top player.
“We have to make sure we do good business in January and step forward. Then we will have a great chance to be in the top six.
“Maybe this result is a turning point. We were out of the game and came back. It was a proper comeback.”

I am still not sure if the manager knows what his best team or system is, Or is he playing poker and waiting for January additions, We keep buying players that don't seem to work for us, it is so frustrating! On balance a good effort once we got the tactics right, Millwall aren't where they are by luck, barring the obvious mistakes with formation etc, this was a better result than Saturday IMO
Think you are spot on in that Gus does not really know what his strongest starting line up and even what system works best. Too many summer buys are uninspiring which does not bode well for the January window. Does TB really trust him with his money ?

Crofts and Calderon have also been injured as well as El Arb and even Kuszczak. I almost forgot Painter. Up front one needs to add LuaLua and of course Hoskins, the list goes on and on.
However in spite of the injuries and suspensions we are still in the top 10 - 8th as I post this.

Sounds an honest review, we all know we were poor in the first 40 mins, they got their second against the run of play.

We grew as a threat in the second half and were all over them in the end.

Milwall are doing well and they share the best current form in the last ten games.

Lopez could have come off instead of Dunk but Gus stuck with him and he played well with KLL.

I'm pleased for Chris Wood and he has shown why he should be a possible target in Jan.

Fair result all round really and it brought out the very good the bad and the certainly the very ugly.

That's football UTA

Not long back from the game and what a surreal experience. Matched by and large by the comments on here. Was I at the same game??!!

Bizarre team selection, bizarre substitutions and overall dysfunctional display from the home team who pretty much looked as though they had had their left and right boots muddled up. Opposition who had the game as good as won but then deciding feigning injury was the way forward and forgot they needed to see the game out as a result.

Highlights or is that lowlights; Buckley and CMS had the worst games I have ever seen from either of them. The best moment came when they collided going for the same ball.

Shittu dropping his shorts in a first half injury break. Then, taking account he is built like a fully grown oak tree, he goes down injured like he has been chopped down at the base of the trunk with a chain saw after getting a tap on the head.

Dunk off inside 40 minutes. Bridcutt who was the only one who actually seemed to know what was required of him substituted.

Wood for them gets two decent goals when he was as effective as Barn Boor Billy Painter when he played for us. However, Dunk too slow with the 1st goal allowing Wood too much room. And then his second goal, as well taken as it was, resulted from CMS gifting him the ball just outside our penaty area. What, pray tell, was CMS doing back in defence in the first place!!

A point gained for us which we were fortunate to get. I think Millwall overestimated our ability on the night and should comfortably have seen us off.

Bad day at the office.

Final comment, don't sign Wood for a shed load of money. He will be as ineffective as our other strikers because that is what we contrive to do.

Persevere with Hoskins, he is as good as anything we can get.

Listened on the radio namgo49, the Buckers and CMS collision summed the game up but it did add a bit of much needed keystone cops humour to the game.

Best comments tonight.

The team selection was completely wrong and the first half display was by far the worst for a long time. Totally disjointed. I appreciate we were chasing the game in the 2nd half and Gus tried to be positive but the worst two players on the night CMS & Buckley were left on. Since Gus quoted that Buckley was better and worth more than Zaha he has been poor.
I have said it since the summer we need a top centre half, powerhouse central midfielder (Trotter for me) and the target man centre forward. If we get them we will go places. Having said that great character tonight to come from 2 down and a well earned point in the end.
One final point who amongst the regular posters feel that Gus is the right man to get us to the promised land and if you were Tony Bloom would you be happy to let him spend your money in January?

Bizarre starting formation. Defence looked like rabbits in headlights every time Millwall pressured us. Credit Gus for acting swiftly when 3 at the back clearly wasn't working. Converting to flat back four gave the team much better shape.

Great 2nd half but can't cover the fact that there are some patent deficiencies in the team.

CMS looked like a boy in a mans game tonight. Greer seems to have forgotten how to pass to a blue shirt. And agree with many that Crofts AND Hammond gives us a very pedestrian midfield. Gus's game needs guile and cunning in the middle. And those two don't possess an ounce of either.

Great to see KLL looking something like his old self.

If we can't play our first eleven we struggle to play our game.

Need a top centre back, Trotter style midfielder and centre forward with strength and a good first touch.

Then we're sorted. Pretty sure Gus knows that too. He's no fool.

So you brain dead mug where is Grant Hall now?Spurs are going to pay Brighton a large amount of money because they feel the lad may have a future in the prem-league.Do you think they really told my friend to only watch one player. So Swansea just let us have a very good prem league player because they like us is what your saying.Name these clubs that think these guys are very good players, where are their bids.Hoskins was very big trouble at Watford & Forest. As for Harley he didn't play one game for Swansea.I only know about five other clubs that pay players to do nothing,or give them contracts to keep their familys happy.Once Swansea saw Harley was not up to the job he was out off the wage bill, same as Hammond at Southhampton, and Croft at Norwich. How can you even think Norwich got it wrong about Croft, look where they are in the prem league this season.Pro foootball clubs don't let go very good football players, apart from Albion with Murray. When i care what a brain dead small minded child like you thinks i will walk away from the game.I talk fact you mug Grant Hall is a spurs player now,not Lewis Dunk. All reports on Dunk are the same as they were on Elphick & Cook.Thats why they are both playing lower league now and Albion took notice of people like me & my friends, and not small minded mugs like you.

Crofts and Hammond and Bridcutt ? They all have their own special skill sets but they are all similar players , defensive ... we need attacking midfilders thats why i liked watching Lopez on Saturday..A combination of him with Orlandi/JFC and hopefully Vicente and things start to look alot more attacking and creative. Add a winger either Buckers or KLL with Hoskins and CMS and on paper things are looking alot more positive.

I really think that Gus needs to be more attacking in his thinking, we have a good defence its going forward where we need to open up teams...I was "surprised" to see Hoskins left out as his link up play was really good on Saturday.
In January we need a tall hard tackling C/B ..yes a striker but i think CMS and Hoskins can do the job , they just need to score a few goals and they will do well. Look at CMS earlier in the season , a few goals =confidence .... GG

I dont post on here much but for god sake guys stop talking about Murray and Palace, Murray is doing well now after a poor first season and Palace are playing well but can they keep that up for a whole season, personally I doubt it ! Gus is the best man for the job down here and hopefully he will be with us for years. Nobody can get it right all the time about players and possibly he has made mistakes but we are all good managers from the stands or our arm chairs !! Just support Gus and the club and believe me Gus will get us there with TB's backing but it may take a couple of seasons. Enjoy the ride and remember where we were a few seasons ago we all have our own opinions and we are entitle to them but lets go forward and stop going on about Murray !
Finally, I hope we dont lose CMS, WB or LB in the transfer window as that in my opinion would be a mistake. UTA

The first 40 minutes were the absolute worst I have seen from the Albion at the Amex. Gus takes much of the blame for his starting line-up, but the sheer incompetence of the players during this period was shocking. And the occasion when Buckley and CMS ran into each other and both fell over when presented with a goal scoring opportunity on the edge of the box was a true football comedy moment. Funny if it had happened to the opposing team. Truly embarrassing when it happens to ours.
We were a changed team when KLL came on, but CMS's lack of ball control which presented Wood with his 2nd goal was indicative of his very very poor performance last night.

UTA[/p][/quote]That's the most sensible post I've read on here for a while.
Yet another person that can think for themself.Do you wish to complain again brightonup.lol
No complaints agaiinst Albion supporters with constructive criticisms, just freeloaders with pea brains who have no loyalty to the club and in their scarcely legible writing style still have the arrogance to bad-mouth players unfairly, apparently backing up their so-called wisdom by citing 'their mates' or any post that faintly supports their demented argument. Sad, sad man - get on your own fan site...

I don't suppose they want you either, though! You're an embarrasment.....

Thankfully not another game before xmas, poorest display of the season, passing and ball control was lacking and we only gained a point by a bad tackle in their area, adding to this was the highest number of mock injuries by Millwall.
I only hope that in the New Year Poyet will field his strongest attacking side at home to protect season ticket sales next year.
