New chief executive Richard Low has revealed he turned down a key role at a Championship club to join Crawley.

Low was unveiled as the replacement for the departing Alan Williams yesterday having resigned from his position as chief executive at League Two outfit Aldershot Town three weeks ago.

The 44-year-old, who grew up in Langley Green, was also targeted by one of Crawley’s League One rivals but Low admits the challenge of building on Reds’ phenomenal rise over the last two years was impossible to turn down.

Low said: “I got quite a few calls when I left Aldershot which I was surprised by because I hadn’t been in football all that long. I got an offer from a Championship club which I was really interested in initially but the more I talked to Crawley the more I felt it was definitely right for me.

“The club in the Championship was already ready-made so I didn’t feel I could do an awful lot there to move it forward. At Crawley I feel there is a lot I can achieve over the next four or five years which really interested me.

“Everyone knows I wasn’t paid at Aldershot and I did it because it was a club where I could help build the infrastructure and it is the same at Crawley.

“I also really like Alan (Williams) and the board at Crawley so it was a no-brainer in the end. I am ambitious and want to work in the Championship but I feel I can achieve that with Crawley.”
