Albion days away from Ulloa deal
11:45am Friday 4th January 2013 in Sport Exclusive By Andy Naylor
Leonardo Ulloa (carrying white boots) is still working with Almeria - but for how much longer?
Albion could be "days away" from clinching the capture of Argentinian striker Leonardo Ulloa from Spanish Second Division club Almeria.
The Seagulls head the queue for Ulloa's signature but they are still waiting for the £1.6 million rated 26-year-old to secure a Spanish passport to allow him to play in England.
Alberto Benito, Almeria's sports manager, revealed to The Argus: "The situation at the moment is that to play in England Leonardo needs a Spanish passport.
"At this moment we are doing the permit and we think in a few days he will have the passport.
"When he receives the passport Brighton is a possibility for him.
"I cannot talk about the price. We have received a lot of offers for him after he scored around 30 goals last season but we wanted him to stay here to get us up to the First Division.
"He wants to join another team and Brighton are very interested in him. Ulloa is very happy with the situation with Brighton but without the passport it's impossible."
Meanwhile, Albion are poised to add Latvian international under 21 centre half Vitalijs Maksimenko from Skonta Riga to their development squad.
