Disaster as Birmingham level late on
ALBION No. 1 Tomasz Kuszczak faces a test of character at Blackburn Rovers tomorrow night after throwing away victory at Birmingham.
Boss Gus Poyet will stand by the Polish international after he allowed a routine header from sub Nikola Zigic to slip from his grasp two minutes into stoppage time in the 2-2 draw at St Andrews. Kuszczak will be replaced by Casper Ankergren against Arsenal at The Amex on Saturday if Poyet continues his policy of using the Dane in the FA Cup.
And the manager admits it is hard to know how Kuszczak will respond at Ewood Park to his first costly mistake since his summer move from Manchester United. Poyet told The Argus: “I don’t know, it’s a good moment to see what happens now. That’s goalkeepers. When you make a mistake everyone remembers it for a long time. I didn’t expect Zigic’s header to go in when it was in the middle of the goal. Nothing changes. Let’s hope that’s it, a one-off.
“He hadn’t made a mistake before that so it will be interesting to see how he reacts on Tuesday.”
Vicente came on for the last eight minutes at Birmingham, his first appearance since August due to thigh trouble. Poyet hopes to give his Spanish playmaker more game time at Blackburn.

These things are less likely when they is a bigger goal-cushion. The team is less vulnerable and feels more confident. We need to put more games to bed, while we are in the ascendency.

Albion will stand by TK...? Are you havin a larf...? How dare you even raise the question! The guy has produced saves this season the quality of which we haven't seen in a very long time. One mistake and his selection is called into question...? There would be a few outfield players who would have their future in doubt if that rule were applied... And there is a policy of using second (or third) string keepers in the FA Cup. Why? I pay (a lot!) to see the best possible selection available on the day. We are not in the luxurious position of a giant squad playing against inferior, lower league opposition - as Arsenal may view this match at their peril. The Albion owe it to us to put the best team out and that obviously includes TK. Fingers crossed for tomorrow and Saturday. C'mon TK, c'mon the Albion !!!

Although TK made the error we seem unable to defend any sort of crosses from the wings and have conceded far too many goals from these areas,a couple of tall strong defenders needed urgently.
