Oscar Garcia is still hopeful of bringing in a new signing during the international break.

But the Albion head coach and his chief executive Paul Barber have warned it is not proving easy to get the right man.

Oscar would love to reinforce in attack before the season resumes with a trip to Yeovil a week tomorrow.

He said: “We haven’t been unhappy with how we have been playing.

“We have been playing well, we have been creating chances, but for now we haven’t been doing the most important thing in football which is score goals.

“The club is working on this. We still have more than a week until the next game. It’s a job for the scouting department to see which players are available The scouting system give their opinion and we will try to sign someone according to the funds we have. We will try and bring in the best we can.”

Chairman Tony Bloom said last Saturday he was sure Albion would bring in at least one loan striker during the break. But Barber yesterday insisted a signing would not be made if Oscar could not make full use of him.

Barber added: “Tony was quite bullish about it – and we are bullish.

“But it is not always as easy as people think. The player has got to be the right player, he has got to want to come – and to come on loan.

“The club he plays for has got to want to let him come on loan.

“Then there are the financials and then there is the time period we need him for.

“A lot of clubs at this stage of the season want players they loan out to be playing and they want guarantees.

“Those of us who work in suits don’t like to guarantee minutes on the pitch when the coach has got to make those decisions.

“So loaning players is not as straightforward as people seem to sometimes think.

“But there are discussions going on and progress is being made.

“It would be wrong to make promises at the moment but it is certainly our aim, as Tony said, to try and bring in one, possibly two, during the next week or so.”

Key men including Liam Bridcutt, Leo Ulloa and Andrea Orlandi are several weeks from fitness but the break gives Keith Andrews, Andrew Crofts and Bruno a chance to get over niggles.

Oscar added: “I think in reality the potential of this team will only be seen when all the players are fit.

That will be in one or two months and then we will be able to see were this team can go.

“Unfortunately there aren’t many who are going to recover in a short period of time.”
