Borough boss sees bright side
Eastbourne Borough boss Tommy Widdrington has praised his players – for doing his job.
Widdrington was left wondering what was going on when Borough went to Concord Rangers on Tuesday.
Thick fog which descended just before half-time put the game in doubt, although the sides did manage to complete a 1-1 draw.
Widdrington said: “I can’t really illustrate how bad the conditions were. You had to see to believe it – or not see it!
“Credit to the lads. I couldn’t manage or instruct them because I couldn’t see halfway across the pitch. However, they were able to do it themselves, which was great.
“It was a game both teams felt they could have won but in the end we were both happy with a draw.”
Jamie Taylor’s third goal in two games since rejoining on loan from Sutton helped Borough secure the point but Widdrington was quick to commend his other new signing, young Gillingham forward Tom Derry.
He said: “The only thing Tom hasn’t done in the last two games is score. He has been involved in a lot of our attacking play.
“I knew what I was getting with him. He is direct, strong, quick and he also gives us an aerial presence.
“For one so young he has fitted in really well and I’m as pleased with Tom as I am with Jamie.”
