Ulloa glad Barnes is providing competition up front

Albion marksman Leo Ulloa has welcomed competition up front from Ashley Barnes.

Ulloa will be on the bench for the second game running against Huddersfield at The Amex today after more than ten weeks out with a foot injury.

Barnes, unsettled at the start of the season, has responded to the loss of the Argentinian with five goals in six games in the lone centre-foward role, including a double in the last home outing against Leicester.

Ulloa told The Argus: “At the start of the season it was difficult for him. Now I am happy for him, because it is very important for the team and for me. The competition is much better.”

Head coach Oscar Garcia has not ruled out pairing Ulloa and Barnes together. He said: “It’s good to have Leo back, because now we’ve got competition for places up front. It’s always good to have a player like him back.

“I think they are different players. They can also play together. We’ve played with them in some games and it paid off.”

If we go into the new year in the top six OG should be given freedom of the city. He had no real pre-season to prepare, a tightly restricted budget and has had to cope with a horrendous list of injuries. The players have clearly responded to him. Let's get right behind him and the team today and claim another scalp !

I have predicted that we will get 45 points from the remaining games; this includes a few draws home and away and a few losses home and away. This would still give us 76 points and that is one better than last year. I am sure some of my results will be wrong but I would imagine 76 points may be enough but that does mean turning over a few of the teams above us at home. I think home performance is key and we need to show intent from the start. I would start with Ulloa as he does have more technical ability however do we use Barnes to play off him and if so do we substitute a winger or one of our other midfielders. What a nice problem to have.

Ha ha ha! Haha ho ho hee heee...!!! Competition...? You are avin a larf. If Barnes isn't condemned to Woodside Road for the rest of the season I shall demand a written explanation. 2 more points thrown away - and don't even start about how many valuable goals he has scored. Apart from his last one my missus could have scored the others. Ulloa, even 25% fit can do better - to talk of competition is absolutely ridiculous.
