Jones relishes FA Cup tie - in video

The Argus: Albion fans will be up for the cup tomorrow Albion fans will be up for the cup tomorrow

Nathan Jones has today explained why the third round of the FA Cup still holds a special place in the football calendar.

The knockout competition's status in the modern game is a point of debate again after Aston Villa boss Paul Lambert said some Premier League clubs could do without it.

But Albion's assistant head coach insists third round day "still holds a bit of magic" as his side prepare to host Reading tomorrow.

Read Andrew Crofts' reaction to those FA Cup comments by his ex-boss Paul Lambert in The Argus tomorrow.

Did we have the debate about LuaLua blatant dive in the Sheffield Wed match?

As we all seem keen on some conspiracy amongst all referees against the Albion.

Of course the 3rd round of the FA cup is still a magical experience, especially for the lower league clubs to make a few bob.

Lambert is having a moan up as usual in order to detract from his abysmal efforts to keep Villa in the PL. Don't these so called big cheese clubs just get up your nose, whereby they assume that everything should be stacked in their favour.

This round of the FA cup throws up all sorts of shock results. Who remembers the drubbing Walton & Hersham gave us at The Goldstone? The year alludes me but I think it was in the 70's

A little cup run could provide some extra revenue for the club, and home to Reading is definitely a winnable game, but speaking purely from the perspective of a supporter, I'm always slightly frustrated by these breaks in league affairs. I just wanna crack on with our play-off push. Could be good to sharpen up Orlandi and Greer though, and get more minutes behind Ulloa's comeback from injury. UTA!

Seems like Gamleys factory, an Albion fan, has the same opinion as Lambert.

Nobody gives a monkies about the cup, checkout the crowd at the Amex tomorrow, anything over 20 000 and i might change my mind

This is a good opportunity to get away from the pressure of the Championship and relax and enjoy the game. It's also a chance to try something different and also give some of the fringe players a run out. Looking forward to the 4th round draw.UTA

Still here Rindstone? It's been months, yet it feels like I've never been away.

I see no conspiracy or talk of one. You must be thinking* of something else.

*whatever passes for thinking in your family, that is ;-)

Typical damage limitation from a prem manager (Lambert)who thinks his team is too special to be involved in the greatest knockout cup in the world

I am fed up with this sort of arrogance from the lofty heights of Sky City when the 3rd round proper means so much to the bread and butter clubs of all the lower leagues
The FA cup provided us with great moments, great days out and history and shall remain so

The FA Cup winners should be given the 4th Champions League place instead of the 4th placed team in the Premier League. Pretty much all the teams would be a lot keener to play their strongest teams then. Even the likes of Aston Villa would have to go for it with the possibility of the huge cash windfall of making the Champions League group stage.

However, I also don't think Lambert deserves any criticism. He merely said that some teams could do without it. His main priority is to keep Villa in the division so an extra game to tire, and possibly even injure, his thin squad is clearly the last thing he needs. We are concentrating on trying to make the Play-Offs so its likely Oscar could do without the game and therefore rotate our squad too, especially with the injuries we've been getting!

I also wouldn't read too much into it if Bridcutt is rested tomorrow. The teams that are reportedly interested in him won't give two hoots if he cup tied or not! If a deal is already done, that would be different but we have no evidence of that yet.
