Albion have challenged former Arsenal youngster Jeffrey Monakana to break into their first team squad.
The 20-year-old winger has joined from Preston North End for an undisclosed fee.
He has signed a development contract which takes him through until June next year.
Albion’s head of football operations David Burke said: “Jeffrey fits the criteria for the type of player we want to bring for the development group.
“He has a good grounding, good attitude and has the added bonus of more than 40 senior games at League One level with Preston and Colchester.
“A quick and powerful winger, Jeffrey is comfortable operating on either the left or right side.
“He has a year-and-a-half left at under-21 level and his challenge now is to make the transition from our development group into the first-team squad.”
Monakana, from Enfield, began his career with Arsenal before moving to Preston in 2012.
He went on loan to Colchester during the first half of the current season and started six league games.
His first senior goal helped Preston thump Crystal Palace 4-1 in the Capital One Cup last season.
