Oscar: Why Bridcutt didn't play

The Argus: Oscar Garcia watches todays game (photo Simon Dack) Oscar Garcia watches todays game (photo Simon Dack)

Oscar Garcia has revealed why Liam Bridcutt did not play for Albion today.

He said Albion felt the midfielder would not be fully focussed on the match at Derby.

Oscar consulted assistant Nathan Jones before deciding to leave his midfielder out of the game at Derby.

Bridcutt recently had a transfer request rejected and is wanted by Sunderland.

Oscar revealed: “He (Bridcutt) was available for selection but he spoke with Nathan and he said that maybe he would not be focused on the game 100%.

"A lot of things are happening around him and he was honest and for this he didn't play.

“I trust all the players. I know how they are.

“I know most of them want to play for the team, for me, for the staff.

“For this I am very proud of the players and how they played today.”

should have given a few other players the day off then? or played it another day when they do fell 100 per cent.

Hopefully he will soon be gone with that sort of attitude. We have a cup game next week so have two weeks effectively to restructure the side with Bridcutt sold for well in excess of £2M before our next game. Pity we have to play 3 more away league games up next as this will add pressure to any new players. We need to be much more attacking if we are to make the play offs as we can do better than park the bus away from the Amex, so an attacking mid fielder of good quality would seem a must allied to two strikers.

I don't think we were much of an attacking threat but we kept Derby from having a shot at goal until the scored late on, and aren't Derby the highest scorers?

I'm very disappointed in Bridcutt - I thought he was better than that.

Interesting listening to Warren Aspinall, clearly several teams namely Leicester,Notts Forest,Qpr,Wigan,Der
by to name a few are banking on getting promoted, not too concerned about FFP and getting the windfall for doing so,which would easily pay any fines imposed by the FA. This FFP means that clubs must reduce their deficits over three years. Even then clubs will without doubt be able to challenge FA rules in court and I am sure will do.
The FA have not said what sanctions will apply only suggested fines, they need to dock points that is the only way.
Brighton seem to be the only club fully abiding by the rules and at the moment to our detriment I fear.
Why no news on Conway and if we do not sort out this mess of letting players go without replacements lined up then the play off places will go.
Poor performance today, nothing in the last third,no quality just high balls to Ulloa who was marked by two or three and got no joy, unless we give him some help he won't score many more and soon be on his way.
So so frustrating at the moment and you look for some reaction from OG but just a shrug and he is proud of them all (presumably not Bridcutt).

Still smarting from the Grabban fiasco where we have been played for mugs by a canny agent and his player. I see no point in paying a ludicrous £2 mill for Mason when you have the £2.5 mill CMS on his way back in a few weeks. Makes me wonder why we sold the dependable Barnes.

Hopefully there is a game plan which can be brought to fruition successfully but I am not so sure!!

A change in team set up seems like a good idea. We need to be much more attack minded and go for it.

Neville, new players will arrive before this window closes. Bridcutt will go, before this window closes.

Clubs can, and will be fined under the FFP rules, there is also the possibility of a transfer embargo being imposed. The fines were to be shared out among the clubs that followed the rules, but that has changed, the money now goes to chartity.
To say that the rules will be challenged in court, I don't see how they can, the clubs signed up for the FFP rules.

Get promoted and get a payoff, yep, and use some of the money to pay any fines imposed yep, but having money in the bank will not erase a transfer embargo. The FA are not fools, the biggest offenders, or those that gained the most, will be fined AND face an embargo. Survival in the prem relies on rebuilding quickly, a six month transfer embargo would kill off any survival plans of those promoted. There is no point having punishments if they have no teeth, the FA will bite the offenders, it would be a mockery if they don't.

Didn't go today, but it certainly didn't sound like much of a match. Poor entertainment all round. As per usual our lack of punch, or lack of desire to get players into our opponents final third has cost us again. What is it now, 6 goals in 7 games as opposed to Leicester's 16 goals in 7 games.
With the general lack of chances, I cant see why OG perseveres with one up front. All the leading team play 2 up and all score far more goals than us.
It's a poor return exacerbated by the injuries to Buckley, Lua Lua and now Crofts, but we've known this all season. We started with CMS & Hoskins on the sick list so I dont really understand why we didn't invest in another striker months back.
We might be technically a sound team, but we are one of the dullest and need to change our emphasis if we are to get something out of this season.

Quote from BBC website from OG
"He said yesterday (Friday) he wasn't focused on the game 100 per cent. He was honest with us and, because of this, he didn't come with us.
"I had picked him to play today but he wasn't focused and in the next week, if nothing happens, I have to ask again. It's a problem between him and the club and they have to solve it as soon as possible.
"The best solution is as soon as possible because it would be better for the team, but these things happen in the transfer window.

Quite clearly the problem needs to be resolved by the board, the head coach seems to have to accept what is going on and will ask LB how he feels next week. Perhaps LB will deign to play for us-what a joke.
Quote from BBC website from OG "He said yesterday (Friday) he wasn't focused on the game 100 per cent. He was honest with us and, because of this, he didn't come with us. "I had picked him to play today but he wasn't focused and in the next week, if nothing happens, I have to ask again. It's a problem between him and the club and they have to solve it as soon as possible. I have to say Orlandi looked decent on the TV. Bruno and Upson looked very good and Ince put himself around a lot, but Andres looked poor and JFC drifter in and out.

Oh how we missed Bridcutt, Barnes and LuaLua today!

Not to mention that if 7 or 8 clubs are flouting the rules in the hope of getting promoted, 4 or 5 will fail and that's one hell of a risk.

As you say, all the clubs signed up to abide by the FFP rules and to be punished if they do not. I don't see how they would have a legal leg to stand on were they to contest any punishments.

Barnes goes to Burnley; Bridcutt wants us to sell him to Sunderland; El Abd would rather play for League One strugglers than be a valued squad member of a Championship club; Grabban thinks Bournemouth is a better bet than Brighton? Defeat at dour Derby. Not been a good week.

Add to that the fact that Buckley and Lua Lua, talented players that they are, spend more time in the treatment room than on the pitch while Ulloa hasn't looked the same player since he returned from injury.

Take all these circumstances into account and it's a bloody miracle that we're even in the play-off picture.

I'm sure there will be an injection of new blood in the coming weeks as, in the space of a few days, we've gone from having a deep and talented squad to our clothes looking a bit threadbare.

I so want to cross Brighton and Hove Albion – Premier League club – off my bucket list. It may not happen this year…but please God, let it happen some day before I die.

A week is a long time in football - actually 3 hours is a long time in football. Mainly positive comments about the team selected today BEFORE the match, and now we have narrowly lost, its all doom and gloom and why did OG put that team out. All of a sudden it's the dependable Barnes, rather that the player who got so much criticism. I am keeping an open mind until the close of the transfer window. That is the best time assess our prospects for the rest of the season.

On FFP it's easy to get obsessed with the rules and penalties. FFP is mainly about financial common sense. The main penalty for flouting the rules is potential financial meltdown if you get it slightly wrong. If you break the rules it's like being Northern Rock or RBS without a government to bail you out.

That 4 months offered of premier league football got to his ego and still after 3 weeks the club has to suffer as he believes he is not "100%" to play along others that actually want to play for this club.

Sell him now while we have the time as we have no time for those that don't want to be here

I get your point.

Whilst I can't see how the FFP rules can be challenged in court due to the fact that the clubs signed up for this, I can see how the FA could be sued if they fail to impose adequate punishments.
Brighton have built a business plan based on what is contained within the FFP rules, and when they signed up for these rules, both club and the FA, entered into a binding contract.

If the punishments are not enforced, and where the fines end up doesn't really matter so long as the fines are imposed, Brighton could argue that the FA are in breach of contract. I think it fair to say that had the FFP rules not existed, our business plan might well have been different so a, failure to act, on the part of the FA, would have to be seen as a breach. If other clubs gain an unfair advantage over us due to the FA's, 'failure to act,' that too would be a breach of contract, and the FFP is a contract.

Hi Chi Gull,if we dont do something ,pretty **** quickly ,the end of the transfer window will already be too late, wev`ve got (inc today) 4 straight away games ,thats 9 points and our FA Cup out the window ,i dont think that can be left until the end of the week ,let alone the month . With respect to your last point ,Vegas is correct ,i have seen many a good post get the elbow ,simply because it points out both the good and the bad . When some only want to hear the good .

Vegas - if you keep telling us how sensitive you are to thumbs down - all the WUMs and trolls will keep giving you the thunbs down whatever you say.[/p][/quote]Hi Chi Gull,if we dont do something ,pretty **** quickly ,the end of the transfer window will already be too late, wev`ve got (inc today) 4 straight away games ,thats 9 points and our FA Cup out the window ,i dont think that can be left until the end of the week ,let alone the month . Plus it`s hard to express "doom and gloom" on a performance BEFORE the match !. With respect to your last point ,Vegas is correct ,i have seen many a good post get the elbow ,simply because it points out both the good and the bad . When some only want to hear the good . I get thumbs down for this comment, but nearly all on here agree that we were crap today, are the players on their lap tops and hooked into the local Wi-Fi.

On this thread, and the other thread, Oscar is in the minority with his opinion.
well I now have 19 thumbs down for my original comment, looks like I got all the players and Oscar, must be a lot of laptops on that bus.
You should do what Mark by the Sea and Claude Back do - take thumbs down as validation of their comments :-)

Hold on chaps, I have just read the last 2 threads and cannot belive what i am reading. Derby are 4th in the league with the most goals scored. We went to their place and gave them a game, it could have gone either way. we gave some of our youngsters (Ince JFK and March) a game. they had 1 chance in the 1st half and 2in the second. We had better chances but didn't score. OK but I was proud of them. As to FFP, I completly agree with what they are trying to do with FFP and am very proud that my club are doing it. I seem to remember that a couple of years ago we were playing on a running track and that now we are playing 'good' football in a brilliant stadium. WTF do you want?

I do hope your right ,it did occur to me that there would be a case for the courts ,if they went back on their "contract" but again ,i have little faith in us getting a fair outcome ,omo. UTA

The challenges will come from clubs like Forest that think they have found a loophole by gaining a sponsorship deal of ridiculous proportions from a company owned by their Chairman.
FFP states that it will view money brought into the club in such a way as to try to avoid FFP penalties, will be treated as debt.
Forest will say that they are free to take sponsorship money at the highest rate they can get. Cue court case.
Personally I think Forest will likely come unstuck, they may be able to fight the financial penalties if they go up, but not a transfer embargo if they don't, which will not get it lifted until their operations are considered to be aiming to get within the rules.

I wasn't at the match (fortunately by he sound of it) but I think the context of this game needs to be taken into account in any judgement on the performance e.g. The Grabban and Bridcutt sagas must surely be a little unsettling, Barnes and El-Abd exiting, the fact that Orlandi and Ulloah have only just returned from injury and may not be entirely match fit etc.
One could argue that professionals should be 'above' some of this, but they are only human.

It's time Mr Bridcutt was given a reality check.

If he is not prepared to play for us and is not of the right mindset then why should he have the prestige of training with the main squad and continue to enjoy all of the perks that this allows... Things like Karting.

I really don't like a former hero treating us like s*** and getting away with it.

Stick him in the DS until he either gets his wish and clears off (for a decent fee) or until he pulls his thumb out of his backside and gets off his throne.

I'm appalled

WE MUST BUY NOW AND GET HIM SOME HELP OR HE WILL BE HANDING IN A REQUEST AS WELL.
Now for the drive home....
I have to say Orlandi looked decent on the TV. Bruno and Upson looked very good and Ince put himself around a lot, but Andres looked poor and JFC drifter in and out.

Oh how we missed Bridcutt, Barnes and LuaLua today!
And before I leave Leicester services one final thing...Arnie...get a new tv mate...believe me HE WAS TRIPE!
Different people, different opinions. He looked decent to me and some others watching.
Im now home....and I havnt changed my mind...He was poor!
dont get me wrong im not saying i dont rate him today he was just poor today.
Jenny does not deserve a place in starting xi. Thought our support was superb today and all n all I still had a good day.

I was asking if you were there out of genuine interest, no need to be upset. When at a match things can look very different to watching on TV/Computer, live doesn't have replays.

We all have our own opinions as to what we expect from our team/players, today I honestly thought that we performed way below par and that Derby were even worse. It is rare for me to have a pop at our team, normally I am quite defensive of them but today, well today I just couldn't.
If the events of the week upset the players to a point where they just didn't deliver, then we have real problems that need sorting.
We lacked any cutting edge today, how many thru balls did we see get played, we attacked down the left side of the park but rarely down the right. Bruno had a decent enough game but I didn't see him raiding down the wing too often, and normally we do. We just didn't pose a threat, that said Derby didn't either. Did we stifle Derby's game to a point where they were not able to attack us too often, or did they just have a crap day, I think the latter combined with some decent midfield play by Ince and to a lesser degree JFC.

I was not impressed by either side today, but I did like the lineup we had, it's just a pity that they didn't get it together today, Derby were there for the beating.

Bo**ocks! The guy has no class whatsoever. I used to admire him greatly but now I can't wait to see the back of him. His actions show that he doesn't give a sh*t for his team (who are paying his wages), nor his teammates. If he 'moved on' gracefully, I might have watched his carer with interest. Now I'll only watch his career in the hope I see him rot. In my book, everything good that he's done for this club is forgotten by a single act of selfishness. He's basically just spit in the face of his employer, his teammates and perhaps most importantly, the fans who have given him such great support over the years. The sooner this prima donna goes, the better. Right now he's a bad apple who can only cause damage to the team. On yer bike Bridcutt, here's one BHA fan who wants to erase you from his memory.

You Wally. Bridcutt has every right to do what he wants. He has earned the right by being player of the season two years running. I expect you even think things are all sweetness and light in the squad too. There are bad things happening and Liam wants out. Frankly, I'm with him.
