Whitehawk part with Freeman

The Argus: Darren Freeman has been axed by Whitehawk Darren Freeman has been axed by Whitehawk

Whitehawk have tonight parted company with manager Darren Freeman.

The former Albion favourite has been sacked following a difficult first season in Conference south.

The Hawks are currently third from bottom and without a league win at home since September.

Club officials met yesterday and decided a change was necessary to help preserve the club’s status in the sixth tier of English football.

Freeman is arguably the most successful manager in Whitehawk’s history, leading them from the County League to Conference south in the space of four years.

His list of honours at the club includes three titles in four seasons, winning the Sussex Senior Cup in 2012, reaching the semi-finals of the FA Vase and the last 16 of the FA Trophy.

The club were keen to stress it was a mutual parting of the ways but Freeman said: “I have been sacked and I’m devastated.”

Ross Standen, who was part of Freeman’s backroom team, has also left the club.

''where there's brass there's muck'! To be fair this has been coming for some time - contenders for the job were sniffing around the club as soon as last season finished.

What a joke!
Darren has done a great job.
Whitehawk have exceeded everybodys expectations by a million miles.
They are stuck in the middle of nowhere with home crowds between 150-200 at best.
He has had good money to spend but I suspect has had to deal with a lot of interference.
All the rubbish with the match fixing players can't have helped.
What's the plan now?
Build on the Enclosed Ground?
It wouldn't surprise me one bit!

Yep, disgraceful decision and evidence that (not that we needed evidence), as a football club manager you cannot win. They exceeded expectations under DF, and then when they couldn't maintain the excess, they sack him.
Wrong. Wish that club all the ill will in the world now.
