Albion's striker target David Rodriguez is on the brink of completing a free transfer move from Spain for the rest of the season.
Head coach Oscar Garcia, speaking at the training ground this morning, confirmed the impending capture of the forward from Celta Vigo.
Oscar said: "He's having a medical and maybe he can start training with us today."
An official announcement is expected at lunchtime.
Rodriguez, 27, cancelled his contract with Celta Vigo, which was due to expire in the summer.
Oscar wants more signings before the 11pm deadline to bolster a squad depleted by sales and injury.
He said: "I hope to have a busy day."
Craig Conway will not be rejoining Albion on loan from Cardiff.
The Scottish international winger is poised to complete a permanent move to Blackburn Rovers and could be playing against the Seagulls next month.
Meanwhile, Will Buckley, linked with a move to Sunderland or Crystal Palace, was at Albion's training ground today for further monitoring of the hamstring injured which has ruled him out since December 29.
Oscar confirmed Buckley will not be available for Sunday's visit to his old club Watford.
