Rodriguez would relish teaming up with Leo

The Argus: David Rodriguez at The Amex yesterday David Rodriguez at The Amex yesterday

David Rodriguez would love to partner Leo Ulloa for Albion.

But the Seagulls' latest Spanish signing admits that decision rests with head coach Oscar Garcia.

Rodriguez has joined the Seagulls on a free transfer for the rest of the season after cancelling his contract with Celta Vigo.

Like Ulloa, he had a spell at Almeria in La Liga. The 27-year-old is keen to strike up a relationship with the Argentinian target man, although that would mean Oscar changing Albion's normal set-up of playing with a lone centre-forward.

Rodriguez, speaking through an interpretor, told The Argus: "I played against him (Ulloa) when he was at Almeria. I know 100% he is a player who makes a difference when he is on the pitch.

"We are totally different players. In essence I think we can both play up front. I think we'd suit each other but that is a decision for the coach."

Full interviews with new boys Rodriguez and Stephens in The Argus this weekend

If he's as quick as suggested, then there's no reason why he can't play off of Leo, perhaps coming from a deeper position like Barnes did.

Yes please, would love to see a change in our play with more than the one target man, it sometimes seems we miss chances relying on the one man but maybe that's just my interpretation and others will see it differently.
Ulloa jumps knocks it down and Rodriguez or CMS knocks it into the net, simples!!!!!

I think that, as happened to Gus last season, we will reach a point in the season where the only chance of getting a place in the play offs is to go all out for the win. At that point it will be interesting to see how Oscar sets up the team.

This season ,without cup run (thank god) written off. Bridders played all 90 mins today ..in prem with no problems woth his head or groin injury. What a surprise and he helps them to 3-0 win. 2.5 mill is looking way to cheap already.

Only time will tell how strong this squad really is. Some clubs have gambled by spending big in the transfer window. FFP was supposed to discourage clubs from taking that approach, but it would seem the lure of PL mega bucks is too much for some teams. I have seen some saying the FA won't impose the FFP fines, but it isn't the FA its the Football League, and the rules were agreed by the Football League Chairmen. Aside from FFP, if a club keeps making big losses, we all know where that leads, irrespective of FFP.

If we get CMS and Hoskins back fit, we will have a strong squad capable of getting into the play offs. Some have criticised our two recent signings before even seeing them play. It is perhaps worth remembering where some of our better signings have come from - e.g. Bridcutt, Noone, Elliot Bennett. None of them came here with big reputations, but all did well and went on to better things. If we finish the season strongly I will be happy. Whatever happens I will be there next season - that's what proper fans do.

Sorry don't agree with the cup is all we have to aim for.
It only takes any of the teams above to have a two or three game bad run and would we be well in the mix and before anyone states "the odds on the teams above having a bad run" just look at the teams in the bottom half Birmingham, Bolton and even Watford, I bet at the start of the season no one would have said these teams would be where they are.
Every team has a bad spell during a season and a long way to go yet!!!

The transfer window hasn't been scintillating for us but we've had a bit of a change round and the squad looks interesting especially with our injured players coming back soon. I think we will cope really well till the end of the season but we need to win a lot of games so I hope we'll play a more attacking formation whilst keeping it very tight at the back.
I am confident Oscar will do the right thing and the squad will perform. UTA

With 16 days to go before we play Hull in the cup, I would hope that CMS will be nearing match fitness, and so that leaves me wondering how Oscar deals with the fact that he has Obika, Rodriguez and CMS available, Ulloa stands down.
I mention this match because Oscar has said that Rodders will have to prove that he deserves a long term contract , to do that he needs to play and not just in the cup matches, but with our lone striker system how can he. Ulloa has failed to score in recent matches but the service to him has been rather poor, would Oscar put him on the bench, or as with Spanish Dave, continue to select him hoping that something will happen.
My guess is that Ulloa will keep his place and that Rodriguez will find himself playing in a wide role, this should mean that Obika and CMS will lead in our cup endeavors. Whilst Buckley is out Kaz will get match time but when Buckers is fit again, I am not sure that he will get his place back, not if Kaz and Rodders deliver and Solly looks to be the biggest loser as Buckley is, and should be, ahead of him in the pecking order.

Of course Oscar might surprise us all and go with two forwards, league and cup.

Too negative IMHO. We are very much in the hunt for the play-offs. Depends how WE do but I don't fear many in this division. Keep an eye on our dealings in the loan window from next week. Oscar and David B haven't finished yet.

By the way, don't believe the £2.5m tag....it's much more and Sunderland's survival (likely) will boost the coffers even further .

I find myself in agreement with you almost always, Chi Gull. This post is no exception and I too will be back regardless next season. Can't get enough of it and it'll take many years for The Amex wow factor to wear off!

On your list of players, Rohan Ince, Will Buckley, Kaz and Ulloa may well follow.

Well its the cup we have to aim for now. Results not going our way today. Might as well play two up top . We might have two games in hand but we would still not be in the top six.
This season ,without cup run (thank god) written off. Bridders played all 90 mins today ..in prem with no problems woth his head or groin injury. What a surprise and he helps them to 3-0 win. 2.5 mill is looking way to cheap already.
Please may we have something to cheer this month the boys that said we would play or even pass Sunderland were in dreamland.
Indeed. Plus we haven't gone on a really scintillating run yet, as others have done....it will come.

Another amazing performnce by GP today - now up to 12th in the premiership - were bottom with 1 point when Gus took over!!!
Also in the league cup final and last 16 of FA cup. What a manager.

Yeah, fine manager - just not much of a man.
So you know why GP was suspended and dismissed??
So it was all Gus's fault and Bloom and Barber did nothing wrong?
Yup!
