Summary

  • Full-time: Albion 1 Doncaster 0
  • Rodriguez starts for Albion
  • Ince returns, March starts
  • Ulloa scores on 75mins
  • Sharp sent off

4:56pm

Roll on Tuesday - thanks for joining me this afternoon

4:56pm

Ultimately a deserved win for Albion thanks to Ulloa's goal but for 75 minutes it was frustrating. Ulloa got the sponsors' MOM vote but March was the best player in my opinion. Doncaster's Khumalo was booked in stoppage time - forgot to add that.

4:54pm

FT: Albion 1 Doncaster 0

4:51pm

Obika on for Rodriguez

4:48pm

With four minutes remaining Doncaster were reduced to ten men when Sharp caught Greer with a poor challenge and then pushed the Albion skipper in the chest

4:44pm

Ulloa booked for a foul on Furman

4:42pm

Lopez comes on for March with ten to go

4:37pm

Stephen Ward crosses from the left and ULLOA heads home the opening goal

4:36pm

Goal disallowed. Ulloa taps in from LuaLua's cross but the offside flag goes up

4:34pm

Duffy shoots over for Doncaster, then a Rodriguez shot is beaten away at his near post by Johnstone

4:31pm

Now Ulloa heads over from an inviting cross by Rodriguez

4:28pm

LuaLua fires over and Ulloa sidefoots into keeper's arms from a corner as Albion begin to create some chances

4:27pm

Husband, fortunate not to be booked early on, is cautioned for kicking the ball away

4:26pm

March has gone into a central position following the change with LuaLua on the left and Rodriguez moving to the right

4:25pm

LuaLua on for Orlandi

4:20pm

The visitors threaten again as Brown cuts the ball back to Coppinger who shoots straight in the arms of Kuszczak. The fans are calling for LuaLua

4:19pm

56mins: Chance for Doncaster as Sharp is left unmarked from Coppinger's cross but he heads wastefully wide

4:12pm

March continues to be the one most likely to unlock the Doncaster defence

4:12pm

49mins: Ulloa, on the turn, shoots low into the arms of Johnstone

4:04pm

Second half just about to get under way ...

4:04pm

Doncaster sub at half-time, Quinn for Tamas at right-back

3:49pm

Albion have had much the better of the first half but no goals to show for it and, in fact, not too many clearcut chances. They have stretched Doncaster and delivered a number of good crosses into the box without ever testing keeper Johnstone.

3:48pm

That's half-time: 0-0

3:48pm

Meite is now booked for the visitors for pulling down Ulloa 35 yards from goal

3:42pm

Doncaster's Chris Brown is booked for a late tackle on Matthew Upson

3:35pm

31mins: Best chance of the game so far as Ward crosses low across the face of goal and March, at full stretch, just fails to get on the end of it

3:29pm

March and Ince have given Albion a real 'lift' - sorry for that!

3:28pm

22mins: Speculative curling shot from Ulloa from 20 yards is on target but comfortable for keeper Johnstone

3:25pm

There was a half-hearted appeal for a Doncaster penalty for handball but referee Ward was having none of it

3:21pm

It has been a good start by Albion but nothing to show for it yet. The youthful legs of Ince and March have given the team a real loss after the loss at Watford

3:17pm

Ince is already looking strong on his return from injury

3:13pm

A good cross from Ward on 9 minutes is headed wide of the target by Ulloa

3:11pm

An Orlandi cross is headed narrowly past his own post by Husband, who was early fortunate not to be booked for a foul on March

3:09pm

Lively start by Albion, getting crosses into the box early

3:01pm

The match is under way ...

3:01pm

Albion will be kicking towards the north stand in the first half.

2:58pm

The teams are on their way out now ...

2:54pm

Five minutes to go until kick-off today - don't forget this blog is bound be a three-minute reporting delay. I will also be tweeting as it happens though at @HowardGriggs

2:46pm

I'm expecting a great reception for Doncaster assistant-manager Brian Horton - the captain when I watched my first Brighton game as an eight-year-old in 1976

2:34pm

Home debuts then for Stephens and Rodriguez, who also makes his full debut. It is also a full league debut for Solly March

2:32pm

Doncaster team is: Johnstone; Tamas, Meite, Khumalo, Husband; Coppinger, Furman, Keegan, Duffy; Sharp, Brown. Subs: Quinn, Cotterill, McCullough, de Val, Peterson, Stevens, Maxted.

2:31pm

The Doncaster team news is that captain Paul Keegan is fit to play and Billy Sharp starts up front

2:30pm

A strange day weather wise - sun is shining at the moment but we had a horrendous downpour earlier. Could be one of those days

2:18pm

The Albion team in full is: Kuszczak, Bruno, Greer, Upson, Ward, Ince, Stephens, Orlandi, March, Ulloa, Rodriguez. Subs: Calderon, Dunk, Lopez, Agustien, LuaLua, Obika, Brezovan

2:17pm

So David Rodriguez makes his full debut for Albion as one of three changes. Rohan Ince also returns and Solly March makes his full league debut.

With enough attacking prowess on the park for us we now have to see if we can break down a team that wants a point and not much more, as most teams do when the come to the Amex.
Orlandi and Stephens and March all have a job to do today, feed decent balls into Rodriguez and Ulloa. Stephens will also have to do some work defensively, it will be interesting to see how he works with Ince but that role is not unknown to him.

8 shots 7 of which have come from 20 yards or more, even with the extra striker on the park it seems little has changed. We must get players in the box.

But Rodriguez isn't playing as a striker - although that shouldn't stop him or others getting forward. This shows how much we miss Crofts.

Arnie if Rodriguez is not playing as a defender, which he isn't, then he has the option of cutting inside and making his presence felt inside the 18 yard area, or put his foot on the ball whilst others get in the box, and not just him, others can do the same. If Crofts was on the park he would be in there, we know that, so why can't Stephens, Rodders or Solly do the same rather than firing off shots from distance every time they get the chance.

Seems as if Doncaster are getting back into the game with 3 quick shots on goal and one saved. Albion should be murdering sides like this if they stand any chance of the play offs and Premiership football!! Come on Albion lets be having you!!!!

I am pleased that we won, pleased we have 3 points and pleased Ulloa has scored at last but all that is overshadowed slightly by the fact that Albion cannot seem to beat these teams much more convincingly and score more goals---but hopefully things will click and we will get into a rich vein of classy football once again---and very soon!!!

To be honest this is a team most of us wanted without going 4-4-2. We made chances and should have had 2 more today at least. I am cold and w but luckily near the front of the queue to get back to my car. I'm happy , boys happy, girls happy cos they like Solly March and we managed to beat a decent taeam holding out ffor the draw. Ward was on top form today and Rodders played very well although out of position.
Same team on Tuesday please but maybe swapOrlandi with Rodders and play Solly and Lua on the wings.

The only issue I had today was the playing of right and left footed wingers on opposite wings so they have a tendancy to cut in. Please play the wingers on their correct side and then swap it if not working; goal came from the lb with a left foot cross from the left wing.
