Double injury boost for Albion ahead of Leeds clash (Updated)

The Argus: Will Buckley is back in the frame to face Leeds after more than six weeks on the sidelines. Will Buckley is back in the frame to face Leeds after more than six weeks on the sidelines.

Will Buckley is back in contention for Albion's key clash against fellow play-off contenders Leeds United at The Amex tomorrow night.

Head coach Oscar Garcia has confirmed the right-winger is available for selection, together with midfielder Jake Forster-Caskey, after both players came through today's training session at Withdean.

Buckley, the subject of a rejected bid from Sunderland during the January transfer window, has not played since suffering more hamstring trouble at Blackpool on December 29.

Forster-Caskey missed Saturday's 1-0 home win against Doncaster Rovers with a hamstring injury.

So too did Andrews and the Irishman's hamstring problem will keep him on the sidelines for the visit of Leeds.

Craig Mackail-Smith will not be involved in a development friendly at Bournemouth today as he continues his recovery from 11 months out with Achilles and ankle injuries.

The match is being played due to the bad weather on a 4G pitch, which is regarded as unsuitable for Mackail-Smith at this stage of his recovery.

Will Hoskins' hopes of resuming training following his long lay-off with cruciate knee ligament damage are being hampered by the soft training pitches.

The striker is back in a protective boot as a precaution but could make his comeback in a development game in the next couple of weeks if the weather improves.

I hope Will Buckley remains part of our club, I know we have March coming through but Buckley is a real impact player who in the championship can win games from nothing, if we can get Buckley and Lua Lua playing regular and fully fit I feel we can make the play offs, these 2 are our real game changers.
Personally and some will disagree I want to see Orlandi, Buckley, Lua Lua and Ulloa as our attacking unit with Ince and one other providing solidarity in the middle.
I will say though that if Buckley is not committed to the cause and wishes to leave then its for the best that he does, I have not heard him come out and say he wants to leave so I take it he is happy to stay and play for the Albion.
No player is bigger than the club, I have said on here before that with our sound infrastructure, a chairman who bleeds blue and white, a fan base which is simply one of the best in the world not just this country, people behind the scenes who care for the club, a stadium which is premiership standard, a youth system where we are reaping the benefits, we will get to the premiership and do it on a level where we are not dictated to by players or finance, we will do it in the best possible, love the club !!

That's good news, albeit totally contrary to the press release from OG earlier today stating he would not be ready. Wish they'd get their facts right before publishing them.
Possibly we'll see him sharing the right wing berth with March, a 60min/30min split might be a good idea.
It's exciting to have so much flair and talent available for a change.

Excellent post- I would add the training complex as well and I think Rodders will have an important part to play.

Buckley was an essential player a season or two ago but I think with his injuries and the emergence of March (rather like the situation with Ince and Bridcutt) this is less the case. Could still be great for Albion if he can overcome his persistent injury problems. If he really is fit then a share between March and Buckley sounds good to me. Expect Rodders will also have a role and Lua Lua. Don't expect JFC to feature.

Fabulous news with a big game just around the corner.

I really rate Will and even though he has been a little off song this season, he still carries a significant threat to the opposition when he builds up a head of steam.

Id love to see both Will and Kaz stay fit and terrorise opponents defences for the remainder of the season.
Play them on the right and left respectively with the middle berth taken by Rod who I thought looked very good when he drifted into the middle and we will have attacking pace and skill in abundance. Leo just in front would have a field day.

Other attacking threat to include CMS, March, Orlandi, Kemy etc and we look very potent in the attacking third.

All ifs and buts but is certainly give us options with all of the speed merchants getting fit.

Agree, an injection of speed is essential. Rodders was making some good runs behind the defence on Saturday and if we can get Orlandi or March or even Bruno to find him with a creative through ball we might see dividends. Ulloa is obviously pretty slow - it's not his forte - he just needs to stay in the middle and get his head on those crosses raining in from Lua Lua, March, Buckley, and Rodders, like a good old fashioned centre forward (and the crossers need to practice not overhitting them!)

One of the best technical players at the club but frustratingly always injured. When he has been playing this season he's looked frightended of his own shadow and is easily bossed off the ball. If he can get back to his best and 'man up' a bit (is that sexist, i suppose it is but you know what i mean) then he has the ability to change games in a way that few can. March is looking good but is raw and not in the same class currently, albeit the signs are there.
Other options mentioned above, i agree that Rodders looked good on Saturday. Agustein is obviously doing someting wrong; which is a shame because he seems to have the ability but maybe not the drive to offer consistency. CMS has the drive and will be looking to ressurect his career which is at a crossroads. Could work out well for us. Lua Lua is in the shop window and has the urgency that is so often lacking in our counter attacks.
I have a feeling that we may get back on track tomorrow night. Lets hope my waters have not been diluted by all this rain...

I don't think so!!
And not because he is on his day a very good player and one we should make sure of keeping part of the Albion set up.
But lets be sensible here, he has not played a competitive game since the end of December and if you where manager/coach would you play him against one of the better teams in the division in a game that we do really need to take three points from or would you stick with the players that have played over the last two or three games?
Would love to see him back like the old WB but this game unless we are 2 or 3 up with 15 to go I think he will have to wait a little longer.

Great that Will is so close to a return ,as some have already said ,a 60/30 share with Solly would be a good move tomorrow . Also great to have JFC back ,but please Oscar ,play the same side as beat Donny ,they came for a point and it was tough to break them down ,Leeds will not park the bus ,so the same set up would have better oportunities in this game ,sorry but i would not use JFC in this one ,i can see Rod getting on the score sheet tomorrow ,and the same attacking line up as Donny ,and we might even get a hatfull . They seem to think .we will be considerably weaker ,without AB and LB ,they`ve got a surprise coming ,with Rod and Rohan !. UTA

Hi tug.
If JFC were to be in the starting line up, who would step down, I guess it would have to either be Stephens or Rodriguez, and to me that would not make sense. I read some of the reports that told of Solly looking tired toward the end so maybe Kaz will start as the down time between matches is just a couple of days.
I liked the eleven we put out against Doncaster and as you say, Leeds will come to win this one and that, like away games, should play to our strengths. We may not be the best at breaking down packed defenses but we can take on those that play to win.
I will be watching the QPR - Derby match today, a QPR win will suit me, keep the last three play off places within reach.

It's interesting that mosts of the posts here so far have referred to Will Buckley rather than JFC and, personally, I think that's because WB is the more influential player; if only he could get fit and stay injury free.

Apart from his wonder goal I really don't see JFC as a mainstream player for the club; there are others that could and should be picked ahead of him every time. Whether he is fit or not, JFC should not be even be considered for the Leeds game.

On a different note - has anyone seen Assmundsen playing for the DV. A very busy and influential midfield player. The 'keeper Walton also looks good. If albion's challenge should fall away I think OG will play them in the first team before the end of the season.
This is where OG scores big time over Poyet for me - he's not afraid to stick youngsters in the team. Also I think his coaching skills have greatly improved individual players. I'm thinking mainly of Kaz, - who looks much improved to me.

Good morning Vegas .
In the Watford game JFC started and was replaced by Kaz ,i think the latter should have started ,and Kaz should start tomorrow as well ,along with Solly, Rohan and Rod ,in fact keep it the same ,and if WB is ok for 20 or 30 minutes then thats a bonus ,maybe switch Solly to the left and Rod to the right ,as has been said ,it worked better that way in the second half against Donny .
Leeds fans reckon they cant start well at the moment ,so a good start from us ,attacking the South stand first this time ,should see us with an advantage at the break. I saw the Yeovil v Leeds game ,and Yeovil matched them for most of the game ,and should have been 2-0 up at halftime ,but for a terrible penalty miss. If we can keep McCormack under guard ,they didn`t show ,where any other goals were going to come from ,i know it wont be as simple as that ,but i think with the same ,all out attack as with Donny ,and we will win this tough game ,as Oscar said we just need to be more clinical ,and dare i say it ,we can muller this lot !. UTA

And yes a QPR win ,although it pains me to say .

As with other comments, looking forward to WB being back in the match day squad in some form. Think he will find he's got a bit more competition for a starting berth these days and that will only be good for all round effort from everyone to stay in contention. Not sure I'd start him but would be good to see a short spell at the end if we're doing okay and he can take it physically.

As for JFC, well he's been okay but not sparkling and like others I think he will struggle to get onto the bench at the moment.
As with other comments, looking forward to WB being back in the match day squad in some form. Great that Will is so close to a return ,as some have already said ,a 60/30 share with Solly would be a good move tomorrow .
Hi bruv, after Saturdays game I'd like to see Stephens and Rodders have another run out, I was quite impressed with them both and would like to see them together again.
Hi Bro, off topic, I am sure that I saw you in the, 'fans gallery,' pictures.

Not seeing the match I have no idea as to how each performed but on reading the reports, and the comments from those that were there, it seems a no brainer to stay with the same eleven. Leeds won't park the bus, they want the points as much as we do, the performance of those that played Saturday might be different due to the approach of Leeds when compared to that of Doncaster.

I am working on a project that is doing my head in, such a relief to pop onto this site every now and then.

Bro, or anyone else that was at the match, did Rodders use his pace to battle back and help out with the defensive work, and if he did, did he make any break out runs, I was wondering just how quick he is with the ball at his feet.

Suffice to say Vegas that he is very quick and looks very willing. He showed enough to ensure that everybody has stopped bemoaning the loss of Conway!

Defo with you on Assmundsen - should be in and around the first team before too long. Another youngster with great potential.
