Kuszczak says home form will be vital

Tomasz Kuszczak kept a fourth consecutive clean sheet at the Amex against Leeds

First published in Sport by

Tomasz Kuszczak insists Albion have to keep making the most of their home games.

The Seagulls claimed a fourth successive 1-0 win at the Amex as they beat Leeds to climb to seventh in the Championship.

It followed Saturday’s victory against Doncaster and there is another vital league game to come against Wigan a week on Saturday, which follows Monday’s FA Cup fifth round tie with Hull.

Goalkeeper Kuszczak said: “We need to collect the points at home, it is a beautiful stadium, big support and we have to take advantage of it. We were looking for nine points (from the three games) and we are going to be ready for it. If we play like we did today it is a big chance for (another) three points.”

Nice assessment. I wish I'd thought of that....
Serious point is that I'm looking forward to the cup game first. It'll be interesting to see how we fare against a bog standard PL side and some sort of marker as to how we might fare if we went up.

The fact they lost to Southampton last night will have done us a huge favour. They are right back in the relegation fight which could mean Bruce playing a less than full strength team to save his first team for the league.

Whatever! He scored the only goal which won us the game. Let's keep our focus on what we want!

I think I am going to respectfully disagree. Apart from a very classy goal, I thought he worked hard and generally 'paced' up a bit . His body language was much better, notwithstanding that his touch was not always there. On the way back for me.

Others I have read said it was his best game since he returned from injury.

Unless he's changed, hasn't Conelli98 been a long-standing non-trolling member of this site, although previously under a different name?

Our home form has been poor.......if we had a comparable home record to most of the other contenders, we'd be in the top 6 now......but I'm seeing signs of improvement......Rod
riguez and Buckley both add pace, which has been sadly lacking....Lua Lua is an impact sub and potential matchwinner.....Marc
h looks comfortable, although the final ball needs work........Leo's not fully up to speed, but he's a goalscorer ( I wonder if Barnes would have taken that opportunity last night? )........If we can rotate the speed boys to keep them fit, get a few more games under Leo's belt and Stephens can chip in with a few, then I don't see why we shouldn't make the 6th berth. Oh, by the way, thought Greer was excellent last night, kept Mc Cormack under wraps.

Agree with the comment on Greer. Excellent game. Very solid defensively and although a few passes went astray he also played some excellent long balls to Buckley and Rodriguez.

Home form is going to be key, especially the games against our closest rivals. Our run in isn't as easy as last year, but it isn't difficult either. We need a confidence boosting 3-0 win to get the goalscoring going.

Our line up against Hull could be interesting, and the team that Hull pit against us could be just as interesting. We have players back fit and well, and Hull face Cardiff away after the Cup match, three points they would feel they truly need as they are only just outside the relegation zone.
Buckley is in need of minutes, Obika will be up for it and Kemmy must be champing at the bit to get on the park. Calde will no doubt start and I would guess Rodriguez too. Not sure that Andrews will be fit enough so Ince will probably start, not a bad first six names to put on the team sheet when considering that cup matches usually see clubs field several back up players.
With Hull needing points off of Cardiff, my guess is that they will keep the bulk of their better players off the park.

Nothing new you may feel, but nevertheless a chilling reminder of the challenges and risks faced by TB & Co in their mission to take the Albion to the top flight.

Where were we this time last season?

7th, points 45.

Now? 7th, points 46.

Thats after loosing out to Palace, the Poyet debacle, horrendous injury problems and a new management team finding their way.
Lest hear it for Oscar and his team!

Up in the west upper I thought he looked lethargic and his first touch was poor! Everyone can have an off day maybe it was me then and not him. Anyway we got the result and thats all that matters.

I am also in West upper.
His 1st touch was generally poor yesterday but he is slowly getting back to form and is always likely to score.
Another one in the cup would do nicely
