Kuszczak targets FA Cup upset

The Argus: Tomasz Kuszczak believes Albion can overcome Hull City on Monday Tomasz Kuszczak believes Albion can overcome Hull City on Monday

Tomasz Kuszczak believes Albion can look forward to the FA Cup with confidence after back-to-back home wins.

The Seagulls entertain Premier League side Hull City in the last 16 of the Cup at the Amex on Monday.

They have been buoyed by successive 1-0 home wins against Yorkshire duo Doncaster and Leeds in the last six days.

Hull are just three points above the Premier League relegation zone after Tuesday’s 1-0 defeat at home to Southampton and manager Steve Bruce may opt to make mass changes as he has in the previous two rounds of the FA Cup.

Albion, the 1983 Cup finalists, have not reached the quarter-finals since 1986 but Poland international Kuszczak believes the match is ripe for an upset.

He said: “For us it is a big chance. We play at home against a good team but a team which is struggling a little bit in the Premier League.

“They are going to make some changes as well, I can see that, and it will give us a chance.

“If we manage to win that one, you never know what might happen. This year we have performed well in this competition.”

Hull have not won in Sussex since 1965 while Albion are now unbeaten at home in their last seven matches in all competitions, having conceded just two goals in the process.

I see no reason why it can't happen, Hull will make changes and as long as we go in with a strong side inc Kuz in goal ! confidence high and attack them we can make it through, wining becomes a habit as they say.

There are thousands of tickets still available for the FA cup 5th round game against Hull on Monday night. The club need to work hard to get these sold, the more we sell the more money we make!! Obviously the game is live on TV, but I would still hope for a near capacity crowd, after all it's during half term week, ticket prices have been reduced and if we win we are in the FA Cup Quarter Finals. A good chance for new Albion fans to come along and see our project? Perhaps we could canvas Sussex Primary and Secondary schools , with the cheap ticket offer?

Just checked the odds for Monday on Paddypower for Monday - we're 5/4, Hull 11/5 - are they basically expecting Hull to put a weakened side out?

I have a lot of time for Brez but I really do hope that Oscar goes for the strongest team possible, which obviously includes Tomasz. Having said that, not precisely sure what our strongest team is - leave that to Oscar. Let Hull do the resting of players because this is such a fantastic opportunity. The quarter finals are beckoning, with all the attendant income, coverage and priceless momentum.

Duncan, if we are 5/4 that's bet 4 get 5 back. If Hull are 11/5, that's bet 5 get 11 back, that makes us favs with that bookie, at those prices Hull are a shade over 2/1.

I totally misunderstood your comment, my apologies, 'put out a weakened side,' God knows why but I read that as, 'put out a weaker side.' meaning that they are prem, stronger, we are Champ Div, weaker.
