Albion go into Saturday's clash against fellow Championship play-off hopefuls Wigan behind the visitors on goals scored.
Wigan capitalised on their match in hand with a 2-0 home win against struggling Barnsley to knock the Seagulls down a place to eighth.
Goals late in the first half from Nicky Maynard and Martyn Waghorn made sure of the points for the FA Cup winners.
Albion and Wigan are now locked together on 46 points from 30 games with a plus seven goal difference but Wigan have scored 35 to the Seagulls' 32. Both are four points adrift of sixth-placed Reading with a game in hand.
