4:58pm

Albion forced two corners in the four added minutes.

They had given it everything but could not avert a fourth home defeat of the Championship season.

Final: Albion 1 Wigan 2

4:54pm

Ulloa was fouled on halfway and took a quick free-kick himself, angling a fine pass out to Buckley. The winger cut inside and his curler was pushed out by Al Habsi - just missing the oncoming Ulloa.

Then Obika produced brilliant skill to make room - but a poor low cross which went straight to Al Habsi.

Ince tried his luck with a shot from outside the box which was just inches wide as the keeper stood and watched.

4:49pm

Bruno sent Albion moving again with a glorious ball into the path of Buckley but Obika could not get a telling touch to the low cross.

4:44pm

Beausejour was booked for time-wasting over a throw-ina drive just wide.

Then LuaLua fired a drive just wide.

4:42pm

Albion got one back when a corner was nodded down into the goalmouth and ULLOA thrashed it home left-footed.

4:41pm

Orlandi was now at left-back.

4:40pm

The final home switch saw Obika replace Lopez.

4:36pm

Waghorn seemed to have set up a third for Maynard but the striker shot wide in front of goal - and had strayed offside in any case.

Before play resumed, the Latics sent on Espinoza for Waghorn.

4:34pm

Att: 27,490 (676 away fans)

4:33pm

Albion went for broke as left winger LuaLua replaced left-back Ward.

4:32pm

Buckley switched to the left and went down as he tried to force his way past Ramis but penalty appeals were waved away.

4:28pm

Buckley opened up Wigan with his first run and fed Ulloa with his back to goal - but his lay off was sliced wide by the left foot of David Lopez.

4:26pm

Al Habsi was taking a long time over goal kicks. It earned him a telling-off from ref Boyeson but no card.

4:24pm

Some Albion fans through Orlandi had reduced arrears - but his shot hit the side-netting.

Then Stephens headed a good chance wide at full stretch when Ulloa was moving in behind him.

Wigan sent on for Gomez for McEachran while Buckley replaced David Rodriguez.

4:17pm

Orlandi lifted home spirits with a fabulous cross which Barnett headed rather awkwardly over his own goal.

As pressure continued, David Lopez's teasing cross was tipped over by Al Habsi under a lot of pressure.

But Ulloa headed over from that flag kick.

4:14pm

Wigan made a bright start to the second half and hald already seen a shot deflect wide when, from their second corner of the half, McCANN was unmarked to head home.

3:50pm

Wigan won a penalty in aadded time but Waghorn's delivery was overhit.

Half: Albion 0 Wigan 1

3:41pm

Despite the scoreline, Albion were playaing some super stuff - and the crowd were getting behind them.

3:39pm

Wigan had not offered much apart from the goal!

But they were close to a carbon copy when Waghorn curled left footed past the top corner.

Then Bruno delivered a superb cross which Wigan scrambed away for a corner.

When that was cleared, Bruno worked a clever one-two with David Lopez and drove the ball in low from the byline but there was no home player to get a touch.

3:33pm

David Lopez was looking full of confidence and ideas.

He angled a pass into the path of Ulloa from the right touchline but the striker's control let hom down and Wigan shielded the ball back to Al Habsi.

3:29pm

Albion almost levelled quickly but Stpehens hit the underside of the bar running on to Ward's low cross.

3:25pm

Rodriguez showed good pace as he turned away from a defender and got in a low cross to the near post, but Greer - still up in the goalmouth following a corner - shot straight at Al Habsi.

Albion were on top - but they were on for a shock.

Wigan launched a counter attack and supplied McARTHUR to cut inside and curl a terrific finish across Kuszczak.

3:20pm

Then Albion worked a nice move down the left which brought back memories of the winning goal against Doncaster as Ward hung up a cross from near the corner flag. This time Stephens, rather than Ulloa, meet it with a header which glanced wide.

As the hosts continued to press, Ince's run behind the defence was found but his cutback failed to pick out a team mate.

3:12pm

Then Albion stitched together a lovely move which saw David Lopez pick out Ulloa with a chipped, angled apss. The striker controlled on his chest and let fly with a low right foot volley which Al Habsi held well diving towards his right hand post.

3:08pm

David Lopez replied with a lovely little pass which got Stephens breaking forward to the right of goal - but his low cross could not quite pick out the run of David Rodriguez.

3:06pm

Updates will also be a little shorter than I would like to offer you but let's hope for a return to normal soon.

Wigan were attacking the North Stand and offered immediate threat as McClean got past the stumbling Bruno and crossed low. But Albion cleared for a corner which was dealt with capably.

2:56pm

Here we go.

Eighth v seventh

No tweets I'm afraid due to ongoing software issues but I'll keep you informed on what should be an interesting tussle at the Amex.

We will not get to the plays off with this team we are not good enough .
We lack ambition , No decent signings , no strikers .
For the first time since i have supported brighton i feel we are been taken for mugs. paying over the odds for seats , if we really wanted to get in the premier league we should have signed top class players .

Another one who wants to spend someone else's money. You don't think Ulloa is a good striker ? You think spending millions on training facilities befitting a premier league club denotes ambition ? Please put your brain gear before you post.

Sounds more like an unlucky defeat rather than a bad one, but I might give the inevitable bin-fest in the match report a miss this evening. I can predict even now who will be saying what... many of whom only appear after a defeat.

....or maybe more poor finishing yet again. 63%-37% possession and 22-7 shots. With that much domination, where's the killer instinct?

This game typifies our season. Our players certainly have the quality. However, for our home matches it appears that our coach believes we are up against Man Utd i.e. an ultra defensive mind-set dominates his decisions.

In the first half our game was predictable and pedestrian. Last season we could be mesmerising when moving the ball forward. I have not seen this seasons (Oscar's ) team do this.

We have been struggling to score for some time now, we go 2-down and our coach waits too long to make necessary decisions. Therein lies the problem.
