Albion talking point: Now how do you see the play-off picture?

The Argus: Oscar Garcia Oscar Garcia

Oscar Garcia tonight shrugged off any play-off implications for Albion and said:” I don’t look at the table.”

The Seagulls head coach had just seen his side beaten 2-1 by Wigan.

So how do you see the Seagulls’ top six chances after their unfortunate reverse today?

And what did you make of the game?

We’d love to know your thoughts.

I do not think we deserve it so far this season. Not enough attacking intent for me and I thought we would take the possible cup route to Wembley but the Hull game another disappointment. At least they will not have Long and J on Monday.

Good game today imo, Upsons first mistake of the season gave them the lead against the run of play so can't be to down on him at the moment, but again we done everything but score.
Second half, we were still sucking oranges when they scored the second but credit to the lads and Oscar we dug in and pulled off a defender and went for it with 4 upfront for the last 10-15 minutes. Results went our way today so still in the running for 6th spot imo so all is not lost. We need to score more than 1 goal, but can't rely on Ulloa to do it all, a loan signing is needed big time and someone who has been playing and scoring, not another Lita/Obika please.
Let's go for it with a bang Monday, a similar starting line up to what finished today, if we lose at least we went for it, not park the bus and hope for lucky break. UTA

Good performance from all today just didn't get rub of the green. yes Matt upson made a mistake ,only one i can think of since he has been with us so no issue for me.
Only salvation for this season could be monday night win , lets hope lady luck shines that night and the players go for it aka today.
today was ,yes a loss but we all know we were not at it earlier in the season and were lucky to be where we were. ironically played as well as at any time this season at hm and lost.

We have been and are still completely out of it. If ever there was a lesson to be learnt about being clinical in front of goal and winning games then today was that lesson.

A great performance by the team with plenty of chances completely overshadowed by two chances taken very clinically by Wigan. It has been said many times before on this forum - possession does not win games and we need strikers to put the ball in the back of net.

Frustratingly, I don't see us in the frame for the playoffs.

I disagree with people who say we need a new striker. We play with one up front and Ulloa scores when we give him the ball in the right areas of the pitch.

The attacking midfielders need to start firing. LuaLua Orlandi Buckley Forster Caskey Rodriguez March Lopez Augustien haven't scored any goals in the league, or a handful if I'm wrong.

It was good to see Oscar make positive substitutions with enough time for them to make an impact. Will buckley and Lualua have us a threat.

What has happened to Kemy Augustien? What a poor signing this has been for the club. He is probably on a large wage having moved from the premier league.

Yep,missing extra fire power alongside Leo,another decent striker and we are in business, but please, please don't involve Jones. His latest tip is total dross, the overhead attempt was hilarious and the one opening he did create should have been pulled back for Leo.

We are still in the hunt, but have to gamble on a quality striker,to have that possession and create the chances we did and not win the game is very disappointing.

There are still plenty of games to go and a lot can change in the coming weeks. We are pretty consistent with our defending and also with the amount of chances we create. All we can do is keep plugging away game by game. We are not doing a lot wrong we just need that clinical finish more often. I can't say hand on heart that I think we will finish in the top 6 but it's not out of the question. Oscars approach of one game at a time has imo been a success and offset the lousy preparation to the season and crap luck with injuries. We are still in with a shout.

The niggling doubt I have is if we were to get an injury to Leo. Then I think our season would be over and we would have a made rush to get a loan in. Betterr if we were to get a loan in right away because he will need resting from time to time anyway given the battles he has to endure against two central defenders week in week out.

Agree with you on this. We have midfielders who we know can score goals as they did it last season. That seems to be what's missing. And talking of missing - Crofts. Think he may have stuck a couple of chances away of those we had today. If the effort by DS had gone in (just a couple of inches lower and it would have) the game would I think have taken a different path. Just such a shame not to be making the best of the chances - so many close calls there isn't enough space here!

This was a massive loss in terms of play-off potential but if we play like that and can start finding the back of the net we will start winning well. Nice to see such attacking intent in the second half formation. Great to watch from close up.

Yes I noticed the unspoken conversation between LU and JO - amounted to "What the ^&*$ did you put it there for"? Having said that it's the most effective JO has been so far (not saying much I know) but good to see two strikers on at the same time. Maybe it was just a lack of ultimate understanding but then again how long must they spend training together? JO should have a better idea by now. As you say it's not over yet but we need to start winning these by scoring the goals.

I would prefer we lost points away but am relieved we did not do our promotion chances a favour today,I am not a new supporter but went through a period when we were relegated from the old Division 1,It was great when we were promoted but within three months it was obvious that despite the £millions we paid out on signings and salaries we were fighting for our lives and the costly players were all helping out to defend,it was not attractive to watch, even worse was the relegation and the realisation that we had players on 3/4 year contracts who had to be almost given away to get them off the wage bill, this resulted to us almost dropping out out of the league and facing administration.
We did not have a great stadium in those days and you only have to watch the Championship show on Saturday nights on BBC1 to see the once top teams performing in front of 25% capacity crowds,if you want a second opinion talk to Palace supporters on how they are enjoying their football this season.

Its about time Oscar did start looking at the table, its what the fans thrive on.
Excellent performance today but we must be the only Championship side that only has one recognised striker and it shows.Possession is fine provided there is an end product and we don't have that. Misplaced crosses and we never seem to be able to score from corners or free kicks, always direct to the opponents.
I believe 6th place is still up for grabs and between Wigan,Reading and ourselves but only if we bring a striker in on loan.
Another big opportunity missed today there cannot be many more or the play offs are gone.

Yes, it was poor decision making by Obika after he had created a very neat opening. He had a useful header into a crowded box just prior to that. I risk being castigated for suggesting that Obika might not be as bad as everyone thinks. He has never started a game to give him an opportunity to work through his mistakes and it just might be a confidence issue. How many posters rated Vokes when he was here? Look at him now.

Totally agree Gordon. There is much inconsistency in the play off race and we are certainly very much in the race. However, I think that ours rests on getting in a decent loan striker as cover for Alloa, but also to mix things up a little and give us a different option. We played some great, free flowing football today, but we lacked precision in front of goal. We are a goal scorer away from being a top side! Plenty more points to play for and will be in with a chance to the last few games!

Don't think Brighton will make play-offs with just one decent striker- how can they? But who would have thought Palace would win promo during the run in?

Saw a bit of the QPR match and they look like they are in a false position and may fall away. One of their players kept nervously looking down at the ball to see where it was before kicking it. Some of the teams you think are certs may not be there at the end.

You don't get the impression the club's bosses are serious about getting promo this season but taking the long term view, maybe the season after next when more kids come through

Saw a bit of the QPR match and they look like they are in a false position and may fall away. One of their players kept nervously looking down at the ball to see where it was before kicking it. Some of the teams you think are certs may not be there at the end. You don't get the impression the club's bosses are serious about getting promo this season but taking the long term view, maybe the season after next when more kids come through pte

UTA
Only problem is - if they're playing and scoring they would never be loaned out

What has happened to the Watford challenge?
Why have Ipswich stopped winning matches?
How serious is the wobble at Forest?
QPR have just lost two and drawn one.
Why haven't Leeds got as many points as us?

Of course we can still reach the play-offs!
We definitely need a change of fortune in front of goal, Mark, but there is also inconsistency in the abilities of loan strikers.
Anyone who guarantees goals will not be available, so it's a choice between taking a gamble, or waiting to see what happens with CMS and Will Hoskins.
With these two reportedly close to a return, I don't see us taking the plunge in the loan market.
As you say there is some good football being played, and we are still well placed for a successful run-in.

Six straight wins should put us back on track! 4th place is not beyond us? I fancy Burnley in the semi & beat Derby in the play-off final. Then Sussexram can stick the silly pendant in his daft blue Daewoo up his exhaust pipepipe.

Its about time the manager picked a team to win rather than wailing to go behind before he brings on his best players. Does he know his best team I doubt it.
