Adkins loves Albion's way of playing

The Argus: Nigel Adkins Nigel Adkins

Nigel Adkins reckons Albion have found a great way of playing.

And he says a statistic he has seen involving Matt Upson underlines that.

The Reading manager has warned his side not to lose possession easily when they go the Amex on Saturday.

He fears they might not get the ball back quickly if they do.

Adkins, whose side lost 1-0 at the Amex in January, said: “They play football the right way in my opinion.

“They play out from the back and control the football. It’s always a challenge to get the ball back.

“If you look at the centre-half Upson for example, he has passed the ball more than any player in the division.

“That’s saying a lot. That underlines the way they go and play which, for me, is a really good way to play, controlling the ball.

“We’ve got to make sure we don’t give the ball away cheaply because there are probably going to be long spells where we don’t have the ball if we do that.”

No problem with giving them the ball back from the back of there net, in fact we can do that 2 or 3 times.

You might love the way we play Adkins but I certainly don't!

Tipy-tapy sideways passing is getting us nowhere in terms of scoring goals. I think we are living off our reputation over the last few years as a good footballing side and its getting a bit old. At Millwall last Saturday we couldn't string 3 passes together without loosing the ball.

Sorry for being so negative, but I feel we need to change our style of play. Praise like this is not helping!

I was also at Milwall last Saturday and we were utter s**t....boring football, passing was rubbish and we played the wrong team. I'm too not happy with the way we are playing. Its wrong to slam down fans for saying this - I have been to many games where we have lost, but been proud to be an Albion fan.. when we go for it but lose, i'm still happy.

At Millwall we played with no passion whatseover, and even though we won...I walked out p*ssed off....how does that work?? I was at Rochdale in 1997 on a tue evening when we were bottom of div 4, and lost 3-0.. I was p*ssed off then... and i'm p*ssed off now...it does not change when I spend a load of money and we play like a bunch spineless t**ts regardless of who we are, where we are, and what dvision we are in....

You people you thumb down..your not football fans. Your followers of teams and have a misplaced judgement of life as a football fan.

It's a weird one as i tend to agree Tommy with regard to the Millwall game ... we won, yet i came away unimpressed. However, I thought the Wigan game where we lost was one of the best games i have seen us play this season ( i don't go every week mind you ). Given that these two games were within a few weeks of each other, it suggests to me that inconsistency is perhaps the main problem with the season so far. I reckon Jesse could be just the spark we need for the run in and reckon we could start scoring more than one goal per game ... that being said, i'll take 1-0 wins for every game that's left ..

When at home I want the Albion to play attacking football from the off and not wait until a goal down after 25 mins, chase the game and then go all out for the last 20 mins.
Possession football in our own half when 0-0 or 1-0 down is not entertaining, the attacking emphasis is what excites the crowd and watching players take on defenders, which I want to see more of. Also at home lets be bold and if in a shooting position then shoot and not pass the buck to someone or backwards else, unless they are in a better position.
I enjoy the Amex but sometimes the football is very predictable and most teams know how we play and our style often allows them time to regroup defensively whilst we play the ball around in our own half, hence one of the reasons for our low goal tally.
So OG lets go for the jugular in the first half and excite us all.Reading will look to win this game after the first 20 mins or so,so no early setbacks plaese.

The previous league game we played Wigan, deserved a win but lost.
I walked out of the ground proud of our efforts.

I cannot judge the Millwall game except through the extended highlights,
Yes we did look rubbish but won.
So over the 2 games things balanced out.

I was at Rotherham Tues eve Feb 1998, we were 2nd from bottom div4 and drew 0-0. I wasn't peed off then, neither am I now.

Unless you want us to play total route 1, the players will be required to string 3 passes together whatever style we play. If they can't, we will still look **** playing 4-4-2, 3-5-2 or any other way.

Sorry Tommy, but I cannot agree. Yes we were poor at Millwall, but playing badly and winning is a sign of a decent team, especially as a team near the bottom will be set up in such a way to frustrate us and stop our game. I think we have played some generally decent, entertaining football this year, within many constraints, such as injuries, adjusting to a new coach and not a huge budget available to spend on players. We are in a strong position to challenge for the play offs and I believe we have enough in the tank to reach them. I reckon that tomorrow and Tuesday will see us play some pretty exciting fast moving football and the addition of the new guy will help us with being a little more clinical in front of goal, which has been a problem in many home games, despite dominating possession. No reason to be fed up in my opinion and I reckon we will secure 4 points in the next two games which will do nicely. I shall be disappointed if we don't make the play offs but do not expect promotion this year and we are not ready anyway. The real re building is in the summer, with many players out of contract and Oscar will no doubt have more say and opportunity to bring new blood in. Next year will see a genuine push, this year is all about keeping the interest going until the end but with no real expectation, other than to actually get in the final mix up. Very good times ahead..........UTA!

Your followers of teams and have a misplaced judgement of life as a football fan.[/p]
The previous league game we played Wigan, deserved a win but lost. I walked out of the ground proud of our efforts. I cannot judge the Millwall game except through the extended highlights, Yes we did look rubbish but won. So over the 2 games things balanced out. I was at Rotherham Tues eve Feb 1998, we were 2nd from bottom div4 and drew 0-0. I wasn't peed off then, neither am I now. I know life as a football fan and gave you a thumbs down. I am a glass half full supporter and believe we are heading in the right direction.[/p]
This, although I wasn't at that Rotherham game! ;0) Captain Haddock
