Obika leaves Albion for Charlton

The Argus: Jonathan Obika Jonathan Obika

Albion striker Jon Obika has been recalled by Spurs and sent straight back out on loan to Charlton.

It means Obika could now line up against the Seagulls for his latest loan club at the Amex on April 12.

Obika's 93-day stint with Albion was not due to end until April 11 but his opportunities have been limited and both Will Hoskins and Craig Mackail-Smith are now easing back towards first team contention.

Knee op victim Hoskins scored, had a penalty save and set up a late winner for Dylan Barnett as the development team beat Bournemouth 2-1 in a friendly at Withdean this afternoon.

Mackail-Smith played the first half on his comeback from a groin tear which interrupted his return from almost a year out with Achilles and ankle injuries.

Mackail-Smith said: "I was trying to nick a few minutes in the second half as well but they weren't having it! It was nice to get another run-out. I felt a lot better this time around than I did when I first came back, sharper and stronger, and I had a couple of chances which was nice."

Sounds like a sensible outcome for all parties. Wishing him more opportunities with Charlton and thanks for providing cover in our hour of need.

Watched dev game on youtube today. Hoskins looked classy and should be on bench on Saturday - like a new signing. CMS looked rusty but fair enough, not really played much recently.

We that comment on here are in a bit of a lull now, so many days to get thru before our next match and nothing of note to talk about. No shock in learning that Obika has gone, nothing to get excited about regarding CMS, just 45 minutes of what I think I read was supposed to be an hour run out today. The Joe Cole teaser seems to have faded away, and I doubt that we are looking to borrow anybody new. Too early to debate the Ipswich match at the Amex, hence no threads offered up.
Man we are in for a boring few days.

With two full development squad games behind him, I'm hoping Will gets to the bench on Saturday ready for a 20 minute cameo. Lopez or Rodriquez making way. I think Oscar will bring Upson in to resume his partnership with Greer. With Dunk's displays, CMS knocking the rust off, becoming spoilt for choice and I'm finding it hard to contain jaunty optimism. Just need to hear that Orlandi is fighting fit.
Feel a bit sorry for Obika - hope he gets some game time.

haha, yep you are right, other things do happen but at times other things take a back seat.
Right now I am working on a plan for a large project but I am going thru designers block which is much like writers block. I am also in the middle of painting the outside of my house, desperate for a reason to stop. I am flitting between painting, drawing/thinking and checking in here every now and then.

On the bench, Will for Rodriguez, works for me. I would love to hear that Orlandi is 100% fit but not so sure that we will, not yet. I watched the youtube coverage of today's DS match, and yeah, CMS did look rusty but 90% of the limited service he got was crap. His efforts today looked a tad subdued but I am thinking that he was told, don't be charging around all over the place.
Do I feel sorry for Obika, well I guess in a small way I do but, had he got more playing time, that would have been because we didn' have other options, it is better for us to have options from our own squad.

I thought he was the son of someone else, did you adopt him? I did notice the other day that your family had been enlarged by he that should not be mentioned :-))
I don't know what his obsession with Dunk is all about, it's bordering on insanity. As a fan of the club wouldn't you want all our players to do well, even those that you might not have much time for. There are plenty that question Spanish Dave's selection but these people don't, 'want,' him to fail. I just don't get it.

No, Lewis Dunk is definitely meant to be my son. I have no idea if he was previously someone else's - perhaps one of the other 6 personas I'm meant to be? (Ironic, given the amount of incarnations since the days of Freeloaders' original account.)

Everyone can see Dunk is a decent player, and some of us think he is very decent. I don't know what can cause so much hate for someone. Heck, I don't even dislike John Terry as much as he hates Dunk (or, as he said this morning, how much he despises me), and there are lots of very good reasons to dislike JT.

But hate is too much like hard work, and I just don't have it in me. But anyone who pulls on the stripes, no matter how talentless, will have my respect and best wishes even if all they can offer is effort.

Of the young players we have Dunk, Ince and Solly, right now, look like the lads that could command a high transfer fee at some point in the future. There may be one or two others that come thru, but today they look like the cream of the crop. I wonder what the total value of these three will be come the end of next season. This might be a slight stretch but if we were to get promoted, I could see all three featuring in one way or another. I didn't mention Buckley simply because he is already an established player and has been for a while, we pretty much know his value.

I think it's indicative of how close Hoskins is to first team action, which makes it excellent news.

haha, yep you are right, other things do happen but at times other things take a back seat.
Right now I am working on a plan for a large project but I am going thru designers block which is much like writers block. I am also in the middle of painting the outside of my house, desperate for a reason to stop. I am flitting between painting, drawing/thinking and checking in here every now and then.

We don't see or are made aware of what goes on on the training ground but it must have been the case that Obika didn't have what it takes to break through, particularly as we subsequently signed Lingard, and Tottenham quite rightly would have made the point that there was no point in him being here.

He drops in to the Dobbie/Lita category of signings.

Let's hope he does not make us pay!

Dobbie certainly did - by scoring some vital goals for Palace. We probably thought he would hinder their promotion charge - but, like Glenn Murray - he did his bit. In Murray's case it was far more than a bit. I think if palace hadn't had Murray last season they would have finished bottom half, and we would probably be in their position in the Premiership!.

Strange how some on here, who usually pose negative comments feel the need to take on multi-identities. I assume that they think that it gives the impression that others support their views. Trouble for them is that the writing style is always the same. Bit of a give away there.

Of course..your glass half empty. Don't you think that having WIll Hoskins nearly back and CMS playing again is exciting? Joe Cole was always **** ..he isn't going to drop wages from £80,000 to £15,000.. just Sunday Mirror rubbish . We don't need to borrow anyone now….our squad is fine. There is loads to talk about …. automatic promotion..or play offs… or will we miss out. If Upson comes back on Saturday..who does Oscar leave out. IS Oscar playing Lingard in his correct position … Why does Oscar NEVER think of playing 4-4-2…. Yes, we've had two great results this last week, but before the Bolton match ,against Reading and QPR we had THREE shots on goal, while the oppo had 41 . Fantastic defence, but is Oscar setting us up correctly at home . I reckon theres loads to chat about ….boring is May to August !!!

Same here - work, family, driving people away from the Argus, using my powerful contacts to get my son Lewis a contract with Barcelona... you know how it goes! Never a dull moment.

Yes, that is odd isn't it, that two people might come from a town of 100,000. Or could it be that one person pretending to be two could make such a basic error? Wow, you really are dense, aren't you :-)

But still, at least you didn't let your ban (10th now?) keep you from the site for long. Interesting that all your posts were expunged (look it up) too...

How many of your posts have actually been about football and how many have been childishly accusing people of being sad and not real fans? Real fans don't despise other fans in quite the way you do, which leads to me to the inescapable conclusion that you are not an Albion fan at all, and if that is a lie then so is everything else you've ever said, like your pretending to know people in the game, or the Argus, or that people don't think you're a d!ck.

Enough already Freeloaders, give it up man, for the sake of your own (in)sanity.

Or could it be that one person pretending to be two could make such a basic error? Wow, you really are dense, aren't you :-) But still, at least you didn't let your ban (10th now?) keep you from the site for long. Interesting that all your posts were expunged (look it up) too... How many of your posts have actually been about football and how many have been childishly accusing people of being sad and not real fans? Is it worth asking Enlightenment for the location of this Facebook page, just to give him enough time to make up an excuse why he shouldn't?

Is it worth pointing out the irony of his comment regarding coming back to a previous story?

Is it also worth mentioning the irony of complaining that this is a football site when all he can produce are the childish rants of a punch drunk simpleton?

We don't see or are made aware of what goes on on the training ground but it must have been the case that Obika didn't have what it takes to break through, particularly as we subsequently signed Lingard, and Tottenham quite rightly would have made the point that there was no point in him being here. He drops in to the Dobbie/Lita category of signings. Let's hope he does not make us pay!
Agree entirely.
This guy came on Jones' recommendation, let's hope as Oscar gets more and more settled here, with his own scouting system, any new signings have more impact than Dobbie, Lita and Obika.
Stick to the training Jonesy

The lovely Mallorca, but often in Worthing.
Now that is odd.Worthing lol. The very same place as Old Scrote of the Amex.LOL HAHA. Be honest man its Worthing.
PS: Worthing has the largest number of Albion fans outside Brighton & Hove. If you ever got the train from Worthing to the Amex you'd know that already.

I used to a lot, when I was teenager living in Worthing and getting to the Goldstone. Nowadays, if I'm in the UK and not going in the 1901 Club (and thus have a parking spot in Bennetts Field) I get dropped off by a friend who works at the university and walk in.
