Albion penalty taker up in the air

The Argus: Leo Ulloa missing his penalty against Middlesbrough Leo Ulloa missing his penalty against Middlesbrough

Leo Ulloa could be put on the spot again at Blackburn Rovers tonight as Albion try to end their goal drought.

The top scorer missed a chance to equalise with a wayward penalty in Saturday's 2-0 home defeat by Middlesbrough after regular taker David Lopez had been substituted.

Head coach Oscar Garcia said: "We will have to speak to him (Ulloa) about whether he is confident to take it or if David Lopez is on the pitch. We have to see."

Lopez slotted a stoppage time penalty to rescue a 1-1 draw at Blackburn last season.

Albion have gone five hours and five minutes without a goal since injured Will Buckley scored his second goal at Bolton.

Oscar said: "Obviously we need to score to win games and this is one of the most important things we need to improve, to take our chances because we have enough chances to score."

I think all Albion supporters acknowledge where the problem is, its how we are going about changing this, nothing wrong with being solid, just our ideas of going forward have been the same all season, its not working so I just feel something needs to be different, tonight for example lets play March, Lua Lua wide with 2 strikers, us the supporters have had the same excuses all season for our lack of goals, its not just the goals, its the excuses we keep getting that get supporters down, I support Oscar and feel he has done a good job in his first season but going forward on the pitch its far and beyond time we tried something different, ( just to add at least Oscar is coming out saying a few things now instead of corporal Jones )

Is this some kind of April Fools Day joke??? Let Ulloa take another penalty - what??? He's scored 1 in 3 for us so far and Saturday's effort was the worst penalty most of us have seen for a very long time, it was clueless and diabolical. Either Garcia was not watching or he needs to get down to Specsavers urgently.

Where I sit on Saturday I was close enough to see the anguish on LU's face. Anyone who doesn't appreciate that wasn't close enough as it was clear for all to see. I've not seen him more frustrated all season, and that's not just about the penalty. It's passion about the game. Personally I'd give it to him again as I bet he's been practicing extremely hard.

However, if we have to rely on just two players to take penalties it begs the question why? Surely we've got more than 2 who can score goals? Well we do but they're either injured, recovering or not getting the service they need on the pitch.

Lets hope LU and the rest can turn it around tonight!

Because he is the main striker. I have seen Beckham miss worse than that from the spot, twice.

Happy to be corrected but I think that was his first penalty for us? I would rather not risk him again, not least because I have yet to see any evidence that Ulloa strikes a ball well with either foot. His strength is heading crosses in. Penalties are not the sole province of main strikers. Gerrard as an example

He missed one last season too, if memory serves.

Ward would have been my choice too out of those players on the field. One of the more technically capable players of kicking a dead ball within the club - for all his strengths, i have never really seen Ulloa hit many really clean strikes on goal.
