Albion have one less rival to worry about in the play-off race

The Argus: Ashley Barnes played a part in the Burnley goal which ended Ipswich's challenge for the top six. Ashley Barnes played a part in the Burnley goal which ended Ipswich's challenge for the top six.

Albion have removed another rival from the fight to finish in the play-offs.

A 1-0 defeat for Ipswich at promoted Burnley today means Mick McCarthy's side cannot catch the Seagulls.

They are four points adrift with a game to go.

Former Albion striker Ashley Barnes gave his old club a helping hand. He initiated the move which led to Michael Kightly's 54th minute breakthrough for Burnley.

Bournemouth dropped out of the race last night when Albion beat Yeovil 2-0 at the Amex.

Reading, last day hosts Nottingham Forest, Blackburn and Watford are now the only teams capable of finishing above the Seagulls. They are all in action in 3pm kick-offs.

one down, three to go... I wonder if Bournemouth can perform to their potential... it looks like they are all but mathematically out of it.

Ipswich are a bit like us, another of the little group of clubs in a lifeless struggle for 6th, none are really ready for the premier league. I would actually be relieved to finish outside the playoffs, the other teams in it are far too good especially Derby.

I would not be surprised to see Bournemouth win today, the promotion pressure is off, now they can play for fun and enjoy the moment.

Just for once I agree with some of what you've said. I'm not convinced we are ready for the Prem as yet either. In some ways I'd welcome another year in the Champ to allow OG to put his own stamp on the squad / team and therefore playing style. Having said that I don't think we should be frightened of the playoffs and getting there woould be an achievement that I and many others would be happy with I suspect. This club isn't about a sprint for the Prem but it's about a long term plan to get there and then stay there.

Currently B'mth look to be outplaying Forest. Donny and Reading looks a bit more cagey though. Lets see where we are at 1650(ish) this afternoon.

true but it will help us if they an open game, we don't do well against teams that sit back, if Forest are in it they will need to win, if they are out they will want to win, so not a lot of difference

Wigan have taken their foot off the gas, clever really, saving themselves.

Annoying that Reading were sparked into life by a lucky penalty. They were hopeless until then, according to the Donny commentary. We have to hope that Burnley will produce another fantastic performance and that we can beat a depressed Notts Forest. Another roller coaster ride!

Cant help thinking they will win one of their two remaing games both away.

So that would mean Brighton have to win at Forest and hope Burnley can take points off Reading.
