Boss John Gregory has revealed Crawley have begun talks to bring Gwion Edwards, left, back to the Checkatrade.com Stadium next season.

Gregory has been impressed with the contribution of Edwards who has scored twice in four appearances since arriving on loan from Swansea City at the end of March.

Swansea have agreed to extend the 21-year-old winger’s loan for the final two games of the campaign – against Carlisle United tomorrow and Bristol City on Saturday – and Gregory hopes the Premier League club will agree to a longer deal next season. Edwards made his third consecutive start for Reds in the 2-1 defeat at Bradford City on Saturday but Jeffrey Monakana has returned to Albion after making just three substitute appearances.

Gregory said: “Gwion has so many assets that he brings to the table. Not only does he have pace but he is smart too. “Usually his final ball has something on it. He produces something at the end of it. I have known wingers who never produce anything. “Gwion is a tough little cookie too. He gets lumps kicked out of him and still comes back for more so I would love to have him with us next year.

“We’ve been able to extend his loan which is very pleasing and have discussed the possibility of him coming again next season.

“I think he would be quite keen as he has really enjoyed it but there are a lot of things to be done between now and then.”
