Chris Jordan has been ruled out of Sussex’s County Championship clash with Durham at Hove tomorrow.

Coach Mark Robinson had hoped the seamer would be available for the match against the defending champions but England have asked that Jordan be rested.

England Jimmy Anderson and Harry Gurney are the only other two England players who featured in yesterday’s victory over Scotland who are not being made available for their counties.

Jordan, who has already missed two of Sussex’s first four Championship games, will be allowed to play in the opening NatWest T20 Blast match against Surrey at Hove on Friday.

Jordan helped England to a 39-run win in Aberdeen yesterday.

A half-century from Ian Bell, and opening stand of 83 with his captain Alastair Cook, allowed the visitors to set a Duckworth-Lewis target of 173 in a match which started several hours late at 23-overs-per-side and was reduced to 20 by another heavy shower.

Jordan hit the only ball he faced for six and later took 1-24 from four overs.

His Sussex colleague Matt Machan scored 33 off 38 balls in Scotland’s 133-9 from 20 overs.

So, in the first 10 days of May Jordan has faced a total one ball and bowled a whole 4 overs and he's told to miss a match!!! What on earth would the likes of Fred Trueman make of that???

Same old story ECB no real interest in the cricket fans and deprive clubs of key players,no wonder the 4 day game is dying on its feet. These days cricketers are professional sportsmen under medical supervision and its ridiculous that they need to be rested for weeks on end. Unbelievable and this is why season ticket sales are struggling, not the clubs fault but ECB idiots.

How are players going to get into any kind of rhythm and form if they're never allowed to play? Two Champo games missed and for what benefit?

Forgot to add you don't have footballers rested before England matches, the premiership clubs would not stand for it. Same for all other sports.

Also, it should be ALL players rested, not just a select few. Massively unfair to the county which has finally helped Jordan realise his undoubted ability.

Those of us who post here regularly don't always agree on things but we are all genuine Sussex supporters and followers of many years standing and we all love proper cricket and believe the Championship and its 4 days games is still the best cricket test and the most important competition.

I agree fully with Neville - 4 day cricket is almost exclusively watched by members (but a decreasing number of them), the number of pay on the day spectators is minimal and things like this are just another blow to the 4 day game. Also agree with Old Scrote - if international players REALLY have to be rested after playing just one 20 over match against Scotland then surely it should be ALL players.

At this rate we will soon have Scotland saying Machan has to be rested!

Absolutely. Disgraceful of the ECB to deprive a county of one of its star players without any justification. As others have said, THEY (the ECB) are to blame for the poor attendances at county championship matches. I'm a Sussex member and of COURSE I want to see our best players play. Plus, a few wickets and runs against the county champions would boost Chris's confidence no end and surely that's better for England than having him sit at home. I'm furious about this.
