Bayer attacked with pace, now can Albion follow suit? With video

The Argus: Sami Hyypia Sami Hyypia

Sami Hyypia likes his teams to counter-attack at pace.

And Bayer Leverkusen offered a few examples of that as they surged into second place in the Bundesliga in the first half of last season.

Have a look at these goals from the opening 17 games.

A significant proportion came at the end of rapid attacks from deep.

The Argus reported on Monday how Hyypia likes to play the game.

And he backed that report up himself today when he told reporters he was not overly worried by possession percentages but that he wanted his men to counter-attack more quickly than last season.

Leverkusen averaged a 50% share of possession in the Bundesliga last season.

But they led the division in counter-attack goals with 11.

When one watches this video, you might be forgiven for thinking that we need a creative midf-field leader, and, Buckley and Kaz will have to feature as they are the quickest of our curret crop of players., but do they have that first touch ability of so many on this video.

Agreed , it's not the pace but the pass, ability to control a ball and then deliver it .. Buckley can do it lua lua is hit and miss,
For me Scott Sinclair was the creative pace when at Swansea , give him the ball around the halfway line and he will destroy defenders, Scott is looking to resurrect his career with a loan from city, and he wats to play week in week out, sell Buckley and bring in this guy.

Agreed. And if Sami and his coaching team can teach our lads to shoot like that there will be lots of smiles on faces next season (not MBTS though, obviously!!) ๐Ÿ˜‰

Very different to the what we have seen the last few seasons and really makes you wonder if the players we have or indeed have had are capable of this type of play. Orlandi for instance! Agustein is but he needs to get his body and mind fit to do this sort of business!

Really looking forward to CMS playing this year, he will thrive with this style of play.
