Former Seagull could return as an Owl

The Argus: Keith Andrews made 37 appearances for Albion last season on loan Keith Andrews made 37 appearances for Albion last season on loan

Keith Andrews could be returning to the Amex – with Albion’s opening day opponents.

The Seagulls’ former loan midfielder is on course for a move to Sheffield Wednesday, the visitors for the first Championship game of the 2014-15 campaign on August 9.

Andrews is negotiating a severance package with parent club Bolton Wanderers for the year remaining on his contract.

Huddersfield are keen to sign him but cannot match his wages. The Argus understands Sheffield Wednesday have now emerged as the favourites to complete a deal for the 33-year-old.

Andrews made 37 appearances for Albion last season on loan from Wanderers when Oscar Garcia was head coach.

The Seagulls are not thought to be interested in re-signing Andrews under Oscar’s successor Sami Hyypia.

They are also set to face former transfer target Keiren Westwood when Sheffield visit next month.

Westwood, one of the goalkeepers on Albion’s list of potential replacements for Tomasz Kuszczak, joined Wednesday on a two-year deal last week after Sunderland released the Irishman at the end of last season.

Trialists Danny Pappoe, George Cole and Ibou Touray get a further opportunity to impress in Albion’s development team against Spanish third tier outfit Cartagena at La Manga tonight.

Central defender Pappoe and attacking midfielder Cole are from Chelsea, left-back Touray from Everton.

Trying to sign players like Andrews,Ward and Hughes shows how successful Barber has been in dumbing down expectations whilst not negatively impacting season ticket sales too much.

You cant fool all the people all the time, em. A big fat bonus on its way to Mr Barber. good job son.

Maybe the many posters that dont go to games are the clever ones after all.

Happy that we are not trying to sign Andrews although he did an excellent (and ridiculously underrated) job in holding our midfield last season and will do well wherever he goes. However he has lost his attacking edge that made him so dangerous a few years ago. It is that forward looking edge we need to add now.
Ward was superb last season (as anyone who wat hed the team will know). If qe cant get him on our terms however we do have Adam Chicksen. Again those who criticise but dont wat h may be unaware of the e tent of his experience. If he can develop his positional game to go with his energy he will do a great job.
Hughes has the experience we need in central defence - it has done us well over the past two seasons.

Is there anything else Ringtone cannot understand..... other than anything to do with football maybe?

Now he will come back and will play really well .
He is going to play in the blue and white strips at Wednesday. this is an advantage as he spent last season passing to anyone who was not in blue and white.
Very surprised he has a Championship contract. think he could do a good job in Division 1 for a side that wants promotion but lacked quality at Championship level with us

Too many posters here doing Andrews an injustice. He is an experienced pro whose contributions were underestimated by many.
He may be past his best but he can still do a good job at Championship level and I hope he doesn't come back to make some of these posters eat their words.

Did a good job for us last season and helped us get to the play offs.
Therefore deserves respect. Good luck Keith but not on 9th August if you go to Wednesday. UTA

With respect I put KA in the same category as Dean Hammond. Will probably be a reserve squad player at his next club whether this is Wednesday or not, and unlikely to face the Seagulls (although psychologically sometimes a good plan for a manager to give an ex player a chance to prove doubters wrong -eg. Dobbie last season who saved himself for the Amex with Blackpool).

I think Ringtone is suggesting that our expectations are being carefully managed downwards since the heady Gus days of ex Spanish internationals and La Liga signings. Now some frankly very moderate signings are much heralded. I expect the days of signing 5 players within 48 days of the August deadline are gone and we will more and more turn to our home grown academy / youth players (which hopefully will prove as successful as Southampton's in the long run).

Those who criticise Andrews just don't know what they are talking about. Played really well for us last year and will be an asset to whichever club signs him.

You obviously never watched the same KA i saw . 2 good games all season and spent most of the rest passing to the opposition so look forward to him playing against us as i bet his stats will read more passes to us than when he played for us. Ask any of his previous teams , fans they will say the same.

And yet he's made about 400 appearances, a large proportion of them in the top two divisions. It just shows that managers see things in players that we fans don't.

Fair comment. Good Wednesday manager never sat near my area of upper east :-)
