Sussex trainer Zoe Davison has two entries at this Sunday's Totepool Southern National meeting at Fontwell - a week after a successful trip to Sandown.

The East Grinstead handler has Asker and Frank N’Fair entered in the first and final races respectively.

Coral’s head of PR Simon Clare, speaking on behalf of Zoe, told The Argus: “The ground looks like being very testing at Fontwell but they may well run.

“Asker ran a decent third on the flat a couple of weeks ago so the yard is hoping that he will run a solid race. Frank N’Fair needs to step up on his recent form but he is a lovely stamp of a horse and does have ability. A solid performance is what we are hoping for.”

Davison and her team found cause for celebration at Sandown last week when new purchase Georgieshore finished second in a Class 5 bumper at 25/1.

The six-year-old bay gelding was bought for a bargain £3,500, despite having impressive Irish point to point form, and was partnered by Zoe’s daughter Gemma.

Aside from finishing in the money, the race was special because it was only Gemma’s fourth competitive ride back after an 18-month absence following a crashing fall at Plumpton, where she broke her collarbone. Not to mention she gave birth to her first child four months ago.

Danni Graham, of owners Sussex Racing, said: “We bought him [Georgieshore] on Zoe’s advice and she has worked wonders with him. “His feet are like huge plates and he obviously loves the mud. We’ll see if we can win a bumper with him and from there probably go novice chasing."

The horse made the running for the majority of the race and had a 30 length lead by the halfway point. He was eventually headed by fellow Sussex horse Stonegate, trained by Horsham’s Gary Moore, but stuck on well through juicy ground to fend off challengers in the final furlong.

Danni said: “I was impressed how he stuck it out. You can’t buy attitude like that so hopefully that will help him go far.”

However there was one slight blot on the copybook for Danni and his Sussex Racing outfit when the Racing UK commentary described Georgieshore as a “rag’ shortly after the off.

“I wasn’t happy”, Dani said. “They have being doing it a lot to smaller trainers lately and it’s disgusting really. They should stick to opinions based on facts and try not to slander people’s livelihoods.”
