Kazenga LuaLua has been ruled out of Albion's Championship relegation battle for several weeks by a knee injury.
The Seagulls are also set to be without captain Gordon Greer again for Saturday's trip to leaders Derby County.
The diagnosis on the injury which forced LuaLua off in the first half of last Saturday's 2-1 home defeat by Fulham is a particularly heavy blow.
Albion have the vastly experienced Aaron Hughes to deuptise for Greer, who missed the Fulham setback with a swollen knee, but nobody with the explosive pace and power to frighten opposing defences like LuaLua.
Boss Sami Hyypia told The Argus: "With Gordon we are in the same situation. We need to go with how he feels but I don't think he's training for a few days now, so it will be very difficult for the weekend and Kazenga has something in his knee, medial ligament, so he will be out for a few weeks.
"He has the ability to hurt people one v one and maybe one v two as well sometimes. He's done well this season, he has been very concentrated all the time, so losing that kind of player is not nice but that can happen and you need to cope with it. Somebody else has an opportunity to shine."
