DALE STEPHENS admits he is a stronger person for his injury nightmare.

The midfielder made his first-team comeback after ten months out with an ankle injury as a late substitute for Albion in last night’s goalless draw at Cardiff.

It was his first appearance since the 2-0 win against Yeovil last April.

Stephens admitted it has been tough but is now ready to play a fuller part in Albion’s fight for Championship survival.

The former Charlton man said: “It is great to be back playing football.

“I have said previously how hard it has been and not knowing the length of time you will be out for. That has been the worst thing.

“It has been a test mentally but I have come through it now and I feel I’m a stronger character for it.

“The main thing was I knew I would be back. That was the only thing I could look forward to. It didn’t matter how long it would take. I would work hard every day and hope I get back as soon as possible. Now I’m back I want to play more football.”
